Void Whaling Vessel

By Giaus Novus Khan, in Rogue Trader House Rules

Please note I am an avid anti-Whaler personally - but in the 40K universe it seems a great adventure opportunity or the type of vessel a rogue trader could easily run into. You'll know what I mean if you are into books such as the O'Brien 'Aubrey-Maturin' series (adventures on the High seas)

Void Whaling Vessel
The vessels that hunt the largest of prey, Void Whales, are built from the Hulls of cargo freighters. Though these large vessels do not directly hunt the Void whales – for fear of being dashed to pieces by the leviathan beasts – instead carrying smaller hunting vessels the size of boarding or assault boats. These whaling boats target the weak and small of the great pods, often trying to separate calves from their mothers for easier prey. Once killed, the carcass of the Void Whale is towed by the surviving whaling boats back to the Void Whaling Vessel to be butchered. Void Whaling Vessels have extensive cargo bays, factoriums and hanger space to allow for the rendering of the Whales the boats bring in. Some even contain vast secondary scrimshaw workshops so that not a single piece of the whale is wasted. Sometimes Void Whalers belong to ancient Void Faring families, but on rare occasions a Rogue Trader will set up a new operation when he comes across new hunting grounds or spawning systems (often to the chagrin of the Whaling houses). Void Whaling Ships embark on long cruises of up to ten years, not returning home until their cargo bays are packed with the treasures of their vast, terrifying and hard to find prey.

My suggestion for what it might look like? The Forgeworld Escort Carrier.

Hmm... Whaling in 40k...

Great find - yes searching for the great white void whale (the size of a cruiser!) sounds like fun to me.

I'll admit that I've always wanted to try whale meat and blubber, but not at the expense of exterminating a species.

But hey, when has that ever mattered in 40k when there's a Profit to be made? demonio.gif Count me in!

It is a galaxy without morals...

Also - sorry about the 'engrish' in the origional post - I can't seem to edit and correct once I've posted?

Thar she blows!
