Glorious....
But then you have to use X-Wing and IA to simulate the skirmishes and dogfights of Legion and Armada.

A nice array now of Star Wars games in all scales.
I wonder what scale the figures are? 15mm maybe to be similar to the Rebel troopers you get in the Rebellion game. But then the AT-AT would be a large model and I do hope they don't resort to a sliding scale.
Things are Hothing up!
Now you can reproduce the clone wars on your tabletop
Holy S if this is real in gonna need new stormtrooper pants.

Somebody send up the Crabbok signal...

I'd be good with the old school Epic style. Very small infantry on squad sized bases, then tanks are about the size of a 40k infantry model.

I doubt it will be at a small Epic/10mm scale. They noted that iconic characters could be used, and it's tough to really recognize a movie character miniature at 10mm scale. I'd imagine it's 28mm/40K scale. Maybe not, but I'd guess it's more skirmish scale than 10mm grand scale.
As with their other star wars miniatures games involving vehicles, I expect a sliding scale.
Would be interesting if you could integrate xwing into this somehow.

Maybe somewhere in between then. 15mm offers a bit more detail without the vehicles getting too too big.
While excited by the concept, I'm worried about the details. I don't remember a lot of Rebel ground vehicles in the movies...they're going to have to make up a bunch more stuff, unless it's going to be AT-AT's and AT-ST's vs Rebel infantry all the time.
Will it have the same draw as space combat? Is there something from the Battlefront games they can use?

28mm is basically Imperial Assault. I feel like that would cannibalize sales far too much. 10mm or whatever the Rebellion figures are at is the starting point I'll guess. Then sliding scale on up for everything else.

I would assume the Rebels would get access to defensive emplacements and snow/landspeeders. It also seems like a slam-dunk to include some atmospheric air support like X-Wings, Y-Wings, TIE Fighters/Strikers, etc.
Totally shooting from the hip but sooner or later you could even get droid armies and the like from the prequels. The prequels were bad in many ways, but the visual spectacle of space and ground combat were both pretty good (even if the fights themselves were basically nonsense).
So long as there's never a Gungan army, I think we're good.

It could be nothing, but I've been hearing fairly persistent rumors that Imperial Assault may be getting dropped due to mediocre sales and some kind of legal confusion. Could be nonsense, of course. I've actually seen the distributor email about Star Wars: Legion, but the Imperial Assault rumors are only that.
Imperial Assault is based directly off the Descent platform. Maybe it is a legal issue. But it'd be a shame if all that money I've spent on it, and the time invested in painting, goes to waste. Hopefully, if it's true and they do drop IA, that the parts will integrate into whatever new format they bring out.
To be fair though, IA is more of a Spec Ops kind of system. It doesn't really handle large scale engagements very effectively. I'd like a ground combat system though, but I'm not sure after my long-time NPE with 40K that I'd be too eager to jump into a system like it.
But sure, I'll be optimistic about it.
They need to keep it at 28mm/IA scale. This helps EVERYTHING move more smoothly. They can transition models to use for both games, the scale already works for successful large-scale miniatures games, and they can cross-sell between at least 3 different game systems (this new game, IA, and the Star Wars RPG series). It also provides a bunch of pre-built models that can immediately sell for players looking to start a collection ahead of release.
As far as large models and things like ground units etc. the answer is going to be found easily by just expanding the pool of film and media options they can pick from. Clone Wars in particular introduced several ground combat vehicles that can be used. IA also gives them options for large trained fighting beasts and other non-sentient aliens that can bolster forces, such as Rancors and Banthas. It even includes hover tanks.

Thanks for the heads up.
The legal issue is with Hasbro. They have the right to board games for star wars and it's been a thorny issue.
I'd be really disappointed if they dropped it. Its a really fun game that I think they've hit a good streak of developments on.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo I've never had a chance to play it and I've invested so much....
Please do a CIS faction, please please please please.
Excited and also sad... wanted it to be compatible with X-Wing but I guess that isn't the case

I don't think it's completely disappearing, it sounds like the other thing people are expecting is a full reveal of the computer/tablet app (similar to Descent or Mansions of Madness) so that you can play the narrative campaign cooperatively against the Empire. This is honestly the best news possible.

In fairness, Runewars was supposed to take over one particular game system (Warhammer Fantasy). Star Wars must be going toe to toe with Warhammer 40k. And it has a deadly serious chance of dethroning it just based on the license.
Okay... Settle down, people. First of all, I'm a little skeptical about your source. Distributors typically do not send out product announcement emails until FFG has actually announced the product themselves. How do I know this? I am a FLGS owner myself. If what you say is true then Alliance might be in deep, deep crap, possibly jeopardizing their exclusive relationship with FFG/Asmodee NA.
Secondly, the "rumors" about FFG ending IA are probably false. Yes the competitive side is not doing super well, but sales for the game overall are still decent, and an official FFG Twitter account stated just a few months ago that they were still working on the official campaign app.
Now would I like to see Legion be real? Yes! Just don't immediately believe everything you hear.
Edited by DishbirdOh ALSO, according to ICv2, Imperial Assault was #8 ok the list of top 10 selling Hobby Channel board games in the fall of 2016. Case closed.
