Star Wars: Legion large scale FFG ground combat minis wargame

By Snipafist, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

It occurs to me that FFG needs to consult their dictionary more often. Then their games would perhaps be more accurately called SW: Task Force and SW: Platoon.

:P

In this case "legion" refers to number of planned add-ons:)

Ok, after watching the demo, the game seems great, but the expansion potential it has is AMAZING with keywords and surge, I probably won't be able to afford it, but if @Green Knight is going to do on Vassal I will be there 24/7 and help if need be!

Just looked at Amazon.ca to get a feel for your prices.

Despite accounting for the weaker Canadian dollar, those are high prices even after discount. The ISD is $75 Canadian. Even after exchanging to USD, that's still the equivalent of $10 more expensive in the states MSRP.

57 + tax not in the bowels of Alberta. Amazon is a terrible place to buy games in Canada.

That, and the CAD isn't actually doing too bad against the USD at the moment... It was worse 4 months ago.

Depends on your definition of bad, the CAD is controlled to be weaker than the USD to encourage them to inport from us, near parity was bad for a lot of our exports.

Oh, I'm well aware.

I'm a net importer, so my definition generally means closer to parity is better. For me. A Weaker CAD / Stronger USD is better for my clients and customers.

The entire thing looks a lot like Star Wars 40k skirmish game.

I have not seen any of the videos yet, but from what I have seen it looks cool, looks like lots of fun, but right now I am a hard pass. I hate to paint so much that just thinking about that makes me loathe the game.

Take big point units, so that there is less to paint. Vader alone is 200 points, imagine other heroes and you got a small task force for not so much paint as well as iconic characters with points for a battle

Vis- Squad make up apparently allows one hero, and hero's range between 150-200 points like Admirals for your squad.

Then a vader and a few extra special units that may cost largely and some big vehicles that also cost big is the way to go!

Minis are unpainted... I gave up painting minis a long time ago. Not starting again. So looks like a no-go for me.

In the Team Covenant video (around 1:01:00) they show the army building restrictions for a full game. Apparently you can have 1–2 commanders, but you also must take at least three corps units – so no way to get around having a bunch of troopers, it seems. I'm not sure what the minimum number of troopers for a unit is though, maybe four or five?

Special forces and support are each 0–3, and heavy is 0–2.

Troopers are 4 I believe, and cards can add extras

GK I hereby volunteer to paint all your minis if you decide to get into it.

You don't have to paint them, although I agree that playing on grey pieces is a bit of a bummer

And this solves the problem of having to assemble and paint the units how?

doesn't solve, but minimizes it. Solution is comission someone to do it (I hear @Drasnighta does it for the price of simply giving him a core set)

You need to do less of it?

But...but...but...vassal...

Pics of unpainted minis...still unpainted...

Anyway. Not sure how well a game that could (potentially) use 3d terrain would translate to the top-down view of vassal?

Great! I'll make sure to order a whole lot! :D

Kings of War has a similar 3d terrain system and I've played that online as well (Universal Battle, not Vassal). It's as simple as assigning a number to terrain pieces and agreeing to a more abstract LoS.
