What is would be a good companion(s) to a couple TIE Strikers?

By codegnave, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Duchess: Predator, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight Frame (28 Points)

Pure Sabacc: Veteran Instincts, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight Frame (25 Points)

I'm looking for ideas on what else to bring in this squad, my only limitations would be no First Order ships(not my style to mix those eras) and no Defenders(ugly things).

I've tried Palpatine and Wampa, but I'm not fond of a mostly un-upgraded Lambda Shuttle, and loading up Captain Kagi or whomever seems like a bad idea. I've thought about 3 TIE Fighters to gum up any formation flying an opponent would try to do or to just provide several blockers in general. I feel like whatever it is it would need to be a viable threat, to distract the opponent from attacking Pure Sabacc, and letting the Strikers flank and move around all funny as they like to do.

Any thoughts?

I am a big fan of VT 49 plus 2 agile ships. Patrol Leader + Ysanne Isard + Fleet Officer at 47 pts. Plus your 53 and tachaaaaan! 100 pts.

Not the best perhaps but I like this Support 360 Large plus 2 Aces.

Deathfire, Extra munitions, cluster mines, lrs (23)

And

Sienar specialist, tlt, lwf (25)

Edit: 1pt too many, so go prox mine or remove the lwf from the specialist.

Captain Yorr is a good one - being able to take red moves with the Strikers opens up their performance no end. That leaves you 1 point - enough for Electronic Baffle (allowing you to 'burn off' stress as Yorr receives it).

TIE fighters might be nice; if you wanted a 'head on' block of dudes. then Snap Shot Mauler Mithel is good - you can throw in two cheaper TIEs (Wampa and Chaser) to get your three warm bodies, or an academy pilot and a black squadron with Intimidation (making a rather nasty blocker).

loading up Captain Kagi

I've been toying with the idea of

Captain Kagi (38) - Lambda-Class Shuttle
Sensor Jammer (4), Rebel Captive (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Mainly because I like the idea of Kagi keeping Target Locks off other ships (good for Strikers I'd think). I don't think I could run him lighter so might be too many points for your liking.

How about a TIE Phantom? I think that would be a good distraction.

Kagi is nice because you're then all at PS8. i'm not sure about fit-out, though. The problem is that fitting in Kagi plus a fourth ship is hard, but kit out Kagi too much and you just make him your opponent's priority target anyway.

Countermeasures & Reinforced Deflectors are a nice antidote to the cruise missile brigade, and you can probably fit in a basic TIE fighter to assist as a blocker.

If you want a support ship for TIE strikers, the Upsilon is a decent choice (although you can also just take more TIE strikers).

Stridan w/ FCS, targeting synch, systems officer, engine upgrade & title = 45

Duchess & Sabaac each w/ VI, LWF & AA = 26 + 25

96

For the last 4 points, your only option is to put another crew on Stridan. Vader or Captive seem like the best choices. Alternatively, you can drop Kylo's Shuttle to fit Hux.

Or you can go with a cheaper Upsilon to fit in a 3rd Striker:

SBP w/ baffle & hux = 36

Duchess w/ VI, LWF & AA = 26

Countdown w/ AA = 20

Trainee w/ AA = 17

99

Alternatively, 5 TIE strikers could work very well, although it takes a lot of practice to get good with an 'all-striker' list, so there is quite a learning curve to it:

Duchess w/ VI, LWF & AA = 26

Countdown w/ AA & hull upgrade = 23

3 Imperial Trainees w/ AA = 51

100
