I'd expect casual players choosing role based on what they(we) want to play for their current deck. Be it two provinces with same element or extra influence to squeeze some extra out-of-clan extravaganza, casual is casual and only reason not to use one would be not needing any of their benefits.

I think there will be some sort of "draft" format eventually, like Netrunner. There might be other formats but I suspect most resources and press will go into tourneys with more recent expansions or storyline stuff (think standard format with mtg).
