To begin, I know alot of this is probably already out there blogs or articles.
In an effort to get more ships on the table and play something that feels FAR more like Star Wars than 100/6, have been playing a flurry of Epic games as of late. I will say, the games have been insanely more entertaining. Four 300 point games, and two 400 point games in last month or so and 4 more earlier this year. What I have learned;
1) UPGRADES; The Broken--Hyperwave Comm Scanner, Operations Specialist, Attanni Mindlink, and Minefield Mapper. The Good---- Seismic Torpedoes (really?) Arc Caster (wha?) Snap Shot, Mara Jade, Ruthlessness, Swarm Tactics, Wingman, Hux, Jabba and even Leia (gasp!)are very fun and have great utility. The Reality---Very little actual modifications are needed for the vast majority of ships EXCEPT Guidance Chips and EPTs above 2 points are generally a waste.
2) ACES; Some pilots which never see play are outstanding in epic; Captain Kagi, Bodhi (provided anyone BUT Kagi is on the table) Dormitz (Hyperwave assault will destroy your list in 2 rounds if you dare to joust) Etahn, Cpt. Jonus... Of course Howlrunner, Biggs, Serissu are auto includes for their respective factions due to their point cost but you knew THAT already.
3) DOUBLE TAPPITY TAP TAP; Generic BTL Y-Wings (especially with Leia out there to help that K-Turn round) absolutely slay if not dealt with. Close range with Dorsal Turret you even have to respect. And as stated before, Snap Shot is a gamechanger as well with A-Wings and Black squadron Ties.
4) ZEROs ARE NO HEROES (or villains for that matter); Zero Agility large ships can usually be melted in a single round of fire, and definitely 2. Stay away. Don't even think about putting them out there. They aren't worth the value of other ships you could field.
5) IT's HUUUUUUUUGE!!!! If flown and outfitted correctly (double comms boosters, cough cough, point--reinforce--ram) Bright Hope is the best Huge ship relative to cost in the game. Get your squadron behind and either a) soak ups more way beyond its' weight in enemy attacks or b) split up the enemy force for you to pursue and hunt.
6) CONTROL POSITION, NOT ACTION; Ion is a far more vital aspect of the game. You can completely wreck an enemy's plans with the right hit on the right ship and especially swarm lists which abound in Epic. Stress, not nearly as crippling as in is in 100/6 as it is just one pilot affected. Tractor Beams.... fall somewhere in-between.
7) PUNCHY NO NAME McNAMERTONs; PS 3 to 4 ordinance Generics are the sweet spot when in doubt about what to add to your list as filler that punches above their weight. They won't get Predatored, and they aren't as appealing a target as aces or whatever Distraction Carnifax you've plugged in.
8) MOVE ROCK, GET OUT THE WAY; Did you know you can place 2 of 3 sets of those pesky asteroids on the short side of the mat touching the side? Yup, you'll never see them in play if you don't want to the entire game.
9) FORGETTA TEH META; Most ships which do well or currently dominate 100/6 Meta are pushovers in Epic. Dash, Miranda, Dengar, Unique Defenders, Omega Leader, Quickdraw, Nym, Fenn Rau. The one exception to this is Intensity Poe with Black One/BB8. He will wreck face and counter the main necessity of Epic, which is Punchy No Name McNamertons target locking Poe's bros.
Yup, that's what I got. What about you?
