I always prefer to order my games from my local game store, in order to support them, but I'd also really like the special extras that come with a preorder. If I preorder through my FLGS, will I still get the special copy of the game?
Do I have to preorder from FFG directly to get the extra stuff?
I'd also like to know this...I pre-ordered from my FLGS, and I'm going under the assumption that the extras will be there, but's not totally clear.
That is a good question, I would like to know that too..
I spoke with my FLGS, and they're rather unclear on the topic themselves! Is there a representative at FFG whom I could suggest they contact to get more details on how this will work? Because like most stores, they order through a distributor, not through FFG directly.
The article says this
QuoteTo mark this momentous occasion, you can pre-order this fantastic game now from your friendly local retailer for the opportunity to receive exclusive limited content. Retailers should contact their distributors for more information on the program and these limited promotional items!
My FLGS just confirmed that they'll only receive preorder bonuses for half of the games that they preorder.
On the one hand, I get what FFG is trying to do. "Order X games for your confirmed preorders, and then you'll have X games left over to sell!"
But on the other hand, this is a $150 game. If four people want to preorder it, they can't afford to buy eight copies and then sit on four of them in the hope that they'll eventually sell. They're a small business. And it sucks that I want to give them my business and money here, but may not be able to without shafting them.
Honestly, it makes it feel like FFG is forcing people to preorder directly from them, to cut out the middleman for greater profits at the expense of our FLGS.

I don't know about that... if you try to order something on the FFG site, a warning window pops up encouraging you to support your local retailer. Seems to me they wouldn't have that kind of disclaimer if they didn't want to support FLGStores.

Actions speak louder than words. It doesn't matter what they say if their policy produces a specific effect (in this case, making it harder for FLGS to preorder from them).
Please note that I'm not outright accusing FFG of doing this intentionally, just saying that their policy gives me that impression. And FFG, If I'm misunderstanding something, I'd welcome hearing what it is, especially if it's some news I can take back to my FLGS to solve this issue.
I would like to know too. I want to pre-order from store, but they say that they don't know if all box will have the extra stuff. Pretty crappy from FFG.
I can confirm physical stores are only getting the pre-order bonuses for half the games. The owner of my local store showed me the info on their pre-order site. There is also a game mat if the store orders 20. I don't know any stores near me that will be ordering that much.
Technically they arent lying if this is all true since the announcement only said we had "an opportunity" to get the extra stuff. But its a really bad deceitful way of doing business if it turns out only half of the preorders are getting the extra stuff.
I hope FFG comes out with something official on this.

To quote the actual article about the preorder on the FFG page:
"
Pre-order now from your local retailer or from FFG
here
and guarantee your access to this limited content!"
That makes it seem quite cut and dried. Preorder to guarantee access.
I'm a bit worried myself. I preordered it from three big local gamestores in Stockholm just to be on the safe side, and I'm still not sure I will get the preorder bonuses.
One of the stores said their supplier told them they would get an unknown quantity of the bonuses and they were unsire how to distribute them, another said their supplier told them they would only get the bonuses for the games ordered
on the day of the announcement
(!) and might not even be able to get enough copies of the actual game to satisfy demand, and the final store said they might not even get the bonuses as their supplier (the major FFG supplier in Scandinavia) told them they might charge a substantial premium for the bonus content!
Yay for planning and communication...?

Oh, they mustve changed it then because Im pretty sure it said youd have the opportunity for it.
As otaking above writes, the retailers themselves seem pretty uncertain about the premium stuff.
My online retailer is offering the bonuses...

Please tell me the name of the store. Thank you
My personal guess would be, that the retailers are not supposed to allow customers to preorder the entire volume of their order.
Like ... maybe: "Dear retailer, order 10 boxes from us (FFG) and let your customers preorder five and put five on your shelf."

My local, UK based, game store said they are getting a post gencon report this week that should clarify the situation. I'm holding off on pre-ordering until they have that information.

Tell us ASAP please, since FFG doesn't seem to want to answer this easy question.
In this thread
Christian Petersen confirms that all pre-orders get the bonus items. Also, my FLGS, with whom I pre-ordered, says the same. I wou,d not have pre-ordered without the hard cover rulebook.
This is what my dutch store sent me:
Yesterday we learned of a change to the distribution of the pre-order promo kits for Twilight Imperium 4. We are now able to purchase the kits seperately from our distributors. We would therefore like to supply the full promo kit to everyone that has pre-ordered the game with us and your pre-order has been changed to a version with a full promo kit for free. All new orders will charge people for the addition to the promo kit.
