I need an opinion

By Mr. Brogger, in Talisman

Would there be any interest in buying miniatures of these characters, if they where sculped an made in 30 mm scale, as the other Talisman miniatures ?

Most definitely yes, but you would have to clear this through Mephisto magazine as they hold the copyright to the cards and images.

I think it is another thing with miniatures - there they have no copyrigth, even i they look like their art. But to be polite and in the moral aspect, I should probaly do as you say angel.gif

Law varies from country to country and region to region, but in general you are incorrect. When creating a character for film, book, tv, game, etc. that includes a standard visage, that representation is usually protected by law if not covered by explicit contracts. In the USA, you would end up in court by not procuring permission or contracting merchandizing rights, for which you would pay the concept originator a percentage if you sell what you create. I know for a fact similar laws exist in the UK, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Austrailia, Czech Republic, Russia... because this is an issue for character representations and descriptions in my books... and for alternative representations done by artists for my book covers.

Mr Brogger,

If you can made those figures the same size as the other FFG characters, and they look good, then i am interested in it :)

Thank you JC,

It sounds like you are very well known with these laws. I have just mailed the Mephisto Magazine for permision and hope to get answer from them very soon.

I am not doing anything before I am totally sure and have a permission from Mephisto Magazine in my hands.

I keep you updated as soon as I know anything.

As soon as I have permission and time to sculp, I am on it. Then you will be updated with pictures of the process for every miniature.

Excellent, Mr. B, because legal issues aside, I would love to see what you can do with some of those characters... particularly the Juggler. Here's hoping Mephisto is amenable. And yes, I've been forced to deal with legalities as an author. Some contracts for the books my wife and I write are 15 to 35 pages long, legal sized, in 9-10 point font. It's utterly daunting some of the minuscule issues that have to be covered. And I don't want you to fall prey to something amid your work.
