Would you rather take 2 Y-Wings (25-28p) or Dengar (56-58p) as Nym's comrade?

By SaszaPL, in X-Wing Squad Lists

As per the title. I am wondering whether I should take some interesting - or rather effective - Dengar build for up to 58 points, but that leaves nothing for initiative bid so I would rather end up with 55-56 points OR a simple but efficient twin tlt y-wings with Unhinged Astro and (maybe) some Plasma Torps & G.Chips?

I consider Nym as the main ship in the list. His guaranteed 2 hits and infinite bombs should be devastating for the enemy. Though with only 1 green is quite fragile, so he needs something that will be able to either finish off the battle or become the main target for the opponent. For ships that are considered "immune" to bombs like decimator or other big ships with a lot of shields and hull, the Y-Wings will be killers. Also if the opponent focuses on taking down Nym, hopefully I will be able to fire the torps in the initial exchange. On the other hand in the end game, y-wings are not the best but I hope to stay will enemies that I am able to take down with low agility easy to get TLT through because those with low HP are dead..

Dengar is Dengar.. But with the points you can't do whatever you like with him.. Plus it would be great to take Cad Bane onto him, but in such case he needs PtL for better action economy and Unhinged (for more greens). That build on the other hand seems not optimal in the points (with Glitterstim and Counter Measures) - or at least that is my gut feeling.. And Dengar is here at PS9, so he has to go before Nym (while the flexibility is order at PS10 is very nice)..

What's your view?

Initiative bid or not, Dengar is still OP. When it comes down to it, he's stronger that 2 TLT Y's. And as awesome as Nym is, if Y's are alongside him, your opponent is going to focus on Nym first, and he only has 1 evade die. But Dengar can take heat off Nym, and let him do his thing.

that's my thoughts anyway

I've been playing Dengar Nym (or Denym as I like to call it) for the lat couple of weeks to great success, went 3-1 on a tourney, losing the final match with the opposing rebel nym at 1 hull left. It's a really strong combo, but I would not advise PTL on Dengar, that way your opponent knows where you need to go. The way I've been using it is like this:

Jumpmaster 5000: •Dengar (58)
Guidance Chips (0)
•Punishing One (12)
Expertise (4)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Unhinged Astromech (1)

Scurrg H-6 Bomber: Captain Nym (40)
•Havoc (0)
Adaptability (+1) (0)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Cruise Missiles (3)
•Bomblet Generator (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
•"Genius" (0)

Total: 98/100

Cad Bane on Dengar would be interesting, specially when your 1 hull opponent rolls zero hits or crits on a bomb... but K4 and Expertise is amazing, you can bump him into ships you don't want to attack him and still have focus tl, or spend ur action on a barrel roll and still have focus tl... It's really great.

The Nym on this build is really good, but has two weaknesses, he's only ps9, which against other Nyms (at ps 10) isn't so good and the Cruise missiles, I would much rather have Homing, but the initiative is way too important for this list. I usually try to fire his only missile in the first engage and then let him do damage with auto blaster and bombs. It's pretty awesome, until you run into a ps10 tlt nym....

Warning about playing with them... sometimes it's ok to drop a bomb on Dengar too, if he gets a good position.

And yes you are correct people usually go for Dengar, he is an end game beast people don'twant to face.
