Pivot Wing/Kanan/Kyle

By Magnus Grendel, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Random combination of abilities that look like they work but I'm hoping someone will poke the plot-holes if I've missed something:

  • A U-wing has its Pivot Wing card in (Landing) mode
  • It is stressed for [Reasons]
  • It's dial is set to [Stop]
  • Reveal Maneuver: I reveal the [Stop] - according to Pivot Wing (Landing), revealing the maneuver is sufficient to allow me to rotate the ship 180'
  • Execute Maneuver: Because I have revealed a red maneuver when stressed, I now execute a white 2 forward maneuver instead of what is shown on the dial
  • Clean-Up: Executing a white maneuver triggers Kanan Jarrus and Pivot Wing (Landing), allowing me to remove a stress token and flip to Pivot Wing (Attack)
  • Removing a stress token triggers Kyle, assigning a focus token.
  • Perform Action: Since the ship now has no stress token, it may perform an action (probably not focus) as normal.

It looks like it should work, but....coming out of what's essentially a K-Turn with +1 agility, focus and a target lock when you went into it with a stress token seems good eough that I wanted to check.

It all looks solid to me. Situational for sure; but it's a neat trick. Just bear in mind that it's not really a K-turn (rather some bastard variation) as you'll end up further back the way you had come.

This is faqed not to work. The 180 specifically. Kanan will still work on the white 2 straight though.

Yep, now only game effect that let you modify a maneuver on reveal work when you reveal a red maneuver with a stress.

" R EVEALING R ED M ANEUVERS

When a player reveals a red maneuver for a stressed ship, the only card effects he may resolve are those that change the maneuver to a different one (Adrenaline Rush, Navigator, etc.). After resolving these effects, if the ship would still be executing a red maneuver, the owner moves the ship as if it were assigned a white (straight 2) maneuver instead. The speed, bearing, and difficulty of this maneuver cannot be changed."

If you'd like to rules lawyer here are some fun suggestions:

  1. I have Hera crew and ignore this entire clarification as I can perform red maneuvers while stressed and just wanted not to.
  2. This FAQ text and the Pivot Wing (Landed) text have the same timing so I choose to resolve them in either order, and I want my 180 degree flip followed by a 2 white forward.
  3. The FAQ is just a guideline for clarifications, it is not - itself - a rules document and is therefore not binding.
  4. A stop and a 180 degree rotation stop are two different maneuvers, so I am changing it to a different one and can thus trigger the card.
  5. I am not a "he" and may therefore ignore this rule entirely.
  6. I don't agree with this FAQ so I choose to ignore it.
