Epic tournament list 400 pts

By Giledhil, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi fellow pilots !

I'm soon getting to an Epic tournament.
The rules are the following : 2v2 matches, each players has 200pts (so 400 for each team). We must at least use one Epic ship.

I'm gonna play with a friend, ad the only Epic we got is my GR-75, so we have to use it.
We want to do something a little bit coherent fluffwise on ships timeline(no Z95 alongside T70s for exemple), and play around a punchy jousting list.

So far, we are getting this ugly beast of a list:

397 points

PILOTS

Tala Squadron Pilot (16) x 6
Z-95 Headhunter (13), Cruise Missiles (3), Guidance Chips (0)

Lieutenant Blount (19)
Z-95 Headhunter (17), XX-23 S-thread Tracers (1), Veteran Instincts (1), Guidance Chips (0)

GR-75 Medium Transport (33)
GR-75 Medium Transport (30), Carlist Rieekan (3)

Chewbacca (Heroes of the Resistance) (50)
YT-1300 (42), Expertise (4), Cruise Missiles (3), Millennium Falcon (Evade Version) (1), Smuggling Compartment (0), Guidance Chips (0)

Captain Nym (45)
Scurrg H-6 Bomber (30), Swarm Tactics (2), Extra Munitions (2), Cruise Missiles (3), Cluster Mines (4), Cluster Mines (4), Havoc (0), Guidance Chips (0), Minefield Mapper (0)

Gold Squadron Pilot (24) x 5
Y-Wing (18), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Blue Squadron Pathfinder (34)
U-Wing (23), Minefield Mapper (0), Extra Munitions (2), Sabine Wren (2), Operations Specialist (3), Pivot Wing (0), Cluster Mines (4)

The idea is two groups : one alpha-striking group with the Headhunters lead by Blount to get TLs and Nym for a chance of firing on a second target the same round (with a pal, thanks to ST). Chewie sticks with them, and gets revenge shots anytime a Headhunter dies. With a little bit of luck, it could be a handful of those^^
The second group is a jousting group of BTL-A4 TLT Ys, getting a shitload of focuses via Op Spec on the nearby U-wing.
The GR-75 is actually there to get a nice alpha strike with Rieekan round if we're getting out-PSed, once that card is played, we use it as a battering ram until it dies.
The 6 cluster mines are a little extra, depending how the opponent places :)

So, if anyone has experience in Epic (that's my first Epic tournament, so I don't), what do you think about it? How can we tweak it a little ? And what you think are the major threats wa could encounter?

Epic Rules state that you can't have more than 12 of the same small based ships. It is also odd to see you can run team with only 1 epic ship, by FFG rules team epic requires 1 epic ship per player to a total of 5 epic points per team. But if there are house rules in effect then spam the whole galaxy with missiles!!!

I recommend going Scum (see if you can borrow a C-ROC) for Z95 (with glitterstim) and M3-A Interceptors (with Atanni Mindlink) alpha strikers:

For a 400 point rebel list with only one GR-75 (and a literal megaton of missiles) I would recommend the below. Three squadrons of four Tala Squadron Pilots, each features 1 XX-23 packing Zed and 3 Cruise Missile packing Zeds and it's all flanked by 4x K-Wing Bombers.

Thanks @ZealuxMyr; yes, the rules of the event are one Epic ship minimum per team, so we arre OK for that bit. We can't go scum since we have no C-Roc (and we have loads of rebel ships^^)

Your second list is nice but : we can't have the K-wings (for fluff reasons, we want to stick with the oldies), and I'm not sure about the groups of Zs. At an Epic format, is it not too easy to kill the ones with tracers before they fire? (especially with those PS4 raiders around); that's specifically why we chose VI Blount and ST Nym.

Zeds are all Tala squadron pilots so they are also PS4 - simultaneous fire rule takes effect so the Raider cannot remove them before they get a chance to fire their tracers. Also you have enough Zeds that even if 1 tracer carrier does get killed your opponent can't stop ALL the cruise missiles from going off in a single round - Range 1-2 is impressively large. If you're not trying to fit 4 K-Wing bombers then you certainly have the points for the two named Zeds (thanks to tracer's "Attack [Focus]:" header I'd recommend VI on both Blount and Cracken). And Nym in the Havoc is better than any Guardian Squadron Pilot in epic so, why not him? Not sure what to do with the rest of your points - you could get more missily with A-Wings (if that fits into your fluff reasons) or more tanky with some YT class ships...

Last team epic I played I (in my 200 points) ran a GR-75 with 6 Tala Squadron Pilots [Homing Missiles, Guidance Chips] and Blount + Cracken [VI, XX-23, Guidance Chips] and our opponents couldn't get enough Zeds off the board to make a difference. Swarm mentality: you are expendable. If you die you've helped the rest hit the target by drawing enemy fire.

Have a blast (with all those missiles) anyway!

I don't think that's in the rules. For Epic dogfight, you can have up to 5 Epic points, but can include fewer, or no epic points. For Team Epic, each player can field up to 3 Epic points (that's 6 total), but there's no required minimum you have to bring. It must have been a custom rule in any Epic tournaments you have played.

After checking the Epic tournament rules from FFG, which are disgustingly outdated - last updated 9/4/2015*, you are quite correct. It has been a custom ("assumed") rule, not very epic without an epic ship on the table...and all participants are there to get some $$ worth out of their epic ship(s).
