gencon Storyline choice & story'Smokeless fire' is up

By Matrim, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

As Scorpion representative, I vote to investigate the threat and, if disproved, to share such power within the Empire for the benefit of us all. The Scorpion clan will humbly take care of the sharing part.

In regards to Unicorn having traditional schools... I wouldn't be surprised, as shugenja are born with that ability. So while it has been mostly forgotten outside of Rokugan, it's quite possible that quite some shugenja have started hearing the whispers of the kami when coming back to Rokugan, or being born here.

Not sure if Meishodo requires similar inborn ability, or only academic/theoretical knowledge. Even if there is no school, I can see the Unicorn having their kami-hearing kids being trained by another clan... Dragon or Crane most probably.

The Crab will not tolerate this blatant attempt by the Phoenix to eliminate a perceived threat to their power base and rob the Empire of a potential weapon against the forces of the Shadowlands.

Hida Boromir?

That's different. The One Ring was forged by evil. If name magic involved the Taint we would have detected it by now.

Actually my money's on the Phoenix. The Unicorns element is water, and the other water clan is Lion. The Phoenix do all elements and spiritual matters are their schtick, so I can see them making sure the 'new guys ' know what is what.??

Eh, dunno. I think the Phoenix might have held Meishodo hostage: "stop using this thing or tell us how it works and we'll teach your people how not to accidentlaly set fire to your horses."

To which the Unicorn reply is "up yours."

Possibly, but being pacifists I think an 'observe and report' strategy would be their way. Remember this would have happened shortly after their rather dramatic return, and I think the Phoenix would err on the side of peace. Meishodo might be spiritualy disrespectful but whether it's dangerous or not is still up in the air.

Look, much as I hate the Crane (Kyuden Doji Delenda Est! Purge the Crane with fire!) I think it would have been pretty easy for them to talk the Phoenix into helping the Unicorn learn the ropes of "proper" shugenja behavior... assuming they needed to. The Ki-Rin left after the whole shugenja thing had been codified, they might well have known what they needed to do without any blathering.

EDIT: Oh, and as a Phoenix fan who played a downright Progressive sort in Winter Court 4? I vote for the share option. If it is truly a threat, it needs to be known. And if it isn't, we can ascertain that and shift focus to better targets. Of course, card games being card games, that means I'm behind the option that theoretically hoses "my" faction... but it really doesn't need to. I believe in accurate threat recognition.

Why should I trust the Phoenix about not accidently setting things on fire? After the accidently burnt down their temple??

What? Where?

Clearly that was a novice mistake made by a novice. To show you how deadly accidents can be!

We're totally fire free!!!

Mostly.

Most of the time.

When it's raining.

There is a spell called Extinguish which is relatively easy to learn.

Why, then, do so many PC fire tensai forget to learn it?

Well, you Unicorn do water. Plus, you live in tents. Why should a little fire bother you?

unless you're.....(fire) chicken ??

Only so many slots to take for Burmination.

Who builds a PC with features that minimize colateral damage?

And every time I've run City of Lies, the Shugenja just looks on in confusion during the opium warehouse fire, because they used all of their slots for burnination...

A shugenja can summon water, so usually that's enough to put out little fires.

Meanwhile, back at Phoenix training camp....

Meanwhile the Ide remain the pacifistic public face of a warlike clan that will be ready to defend their beliefs at the edge of a sword.

This reminds of the time Dragon Clan invented katana and the Scorpion gave it to everybody.

That way the dragon clan would look like jerks if they got mad at the Scorpion clan for stealing their secrets.

As the great Akodo no Kami once said when told that he was surrounded, "Excellent! We can attack in any direction!"

There's always koans from the Dragon front. If you're unlucky, they're Ice Cream Koans.
