Meishodo doesn't use kami to do the shugenja a favor, it directly tampers with the elements. That's why the Qolat wanted it within the Unicorn and later the Empire: to weaken the Celestial Order.

That said, are there dark elements?

From what I can tell, The crab have been completely ignored by the Empire, and the only other people who have done anything against the Shadowlands are those who actually rode through them.

I thought meishōdō binded spirits, just that any spirit worked, like how the flavor text of "Meishōdō Wielder" says that by knowing the kami's name he can control it. If that's how it works it could be that it hasn't been prepared to avoid using kansen.

Yeah and the Shadowlands horde was so impressed by Tadaka, they named an Oni after him.

Sorry, we know Tadaka is going to the Crab lands to research. That's still one more person going there than the Unicorn have mentioned.

I see how this goes down. Phoenix get really pissed kill the people who know the name of the thing in the artifact, and thus accidently releasing it from it's bonds.

I do talk of old L5R though. In ny case, if you know the true name of a kami, you don't need to pray to it. You make it obey. Jigoku had no influence outside Rokugan but maybe once the Unicorn came back, someone could mess with things they should not.

Still, the artifact in the fiction doesn't look rokugani at all.

L5R newbie so I don't know what was her story, but that Ishiken seemed like more of a danger than whatever the Unicorn shugenja was doing.
