100/6 LGS play "by the book". Casual and friendly with the idea of fielding Unique pilots not very popular. At least one each side.
My opponent choose Tie Advanced Colzet. Quite good in my opinion but one of the less played named pilots in the local meta. Cheap, simply Title, ATC and Mk II Engine. 25 pts.
I was a little surprised about the role asigned to him in the Squad. Simply try to keep him alive and TL turn after turn my Mandalorian Mercenary. I asigned Colzet a low priority (bad move) and didn't see it coming. Well aimed Proton Torps with GCs and after that two Academy Ties started to bite.
And each turn till the Mandalorian thing blow up Colzet turning one card face up. Quite damaging crits (No Direct Hits but Pilot Blinded, Major Hull Breach...).
The key was outmaneuvering my brain. While the FS 31 was torn to pieces I finished my rival's Tie Bomber and then again got surprised.
Mid game suddenly Colzet changed his tactics from "simply stay out of arc" to frontal R1. You do not expect Tie Advanced K turning to bite you in the face with no TL. Hit him of course but those Crits were mitigated by Shields.
Then I started to use my head to think and not to hit the wall. Minor Defeat (only one Academy remaining, two Hulls left). Very funny and clever flying.
Another example that perhaps X Wing is still the best minis wargame out there. 5 minutes to "unholster" your squad. 5 minutes setting the stage. 55 minutes of play. 10 minutes to pack while chatting. 75 minutes in total.
As I usually play at home with friends it is refreshing to play little LGS games with gamers outside my social circle. After playing perhaps 5 LGS plays next one at my home with his boy. Lets introduce him to Raider vs Tantine...
