If a ship use youngster ability doest it discard the crack shot?

Note Youngster's very careful wording - Friendly tie fighters may perform the action on your equipped ept upgrade card. Crack shot contains no actions, so there's no action for other Tie Fighters to perform. Youngster only works with epts with the Action: header.

i feel stupid

Don't feel stupid, this exact question comes up all the time with new players in my area. It's very easy to read Youngster's card and only see that others can use his equiped EPT, instead of the fact that what they are actually doing is using the Action provided by the EPT.

It came up as recently as last week:

Youngster lets you use:

• Rage
• Expert Handling
• Squad Leader
• Daredevil
• Marksmanship
• Expose

Agreed, don't feel stupid; but I do question how people keep making this mistake. The language on Youngster is quite clear. I suspect it's more a case of people not reading things carefully and/or reading what they want to read...

NO!!

That is of course assuming the ship using Youngster's Action EPT actually has it's own EPT that is filled with Crack Shot at the time. It is unfortunately common for people to misread Youngster's ability and assume that those qualifying ships can just use the EPT as if it were their own. Consider the idea of Youngster with Predator; if everyone could use it then it becomes a lot like Howlrunner except it gives up 2 points of PS in exchange for a MASSIVE range increase and the potential to reroll TWO attack dice. Youngster isn't that strong yet although with it around FFG does need to watch the ACTION based EPTs it produces.

In some ways Squad Leader is actually the most interesting thing to put on Youngster if you had the variety of PS to pass actions down. Why? Simply because Squad Leader is unique but if Youngster has it then multiple ships in the squadron could potentially use it where a high PS ship could essentially pass off its Action to a lower PS ship that needs it more.

Yes the language is clear, if you read all of the words and don't get overexcited about the potential EPTs you want to use on Youngster that would just be so BROKEN!!!! Which is of course exactly what happens to new players that aren't quite used to reading all of the words closely before working on combos.

"Reading all the words" is the basic tenet of comprehension. People need to slow down a tad...

this is probably just as common as the SF Title goof so dont feel dumb for making that mistake.

The sad part of that comparison is the SF one is actually worded a bit wonky, yet theyre about the same frequency in here for questions. You'd think the SF title would be far higher lol.

I often wonder if Youngster is the reason action-based EPTs havnt been appearing lately. The last one we got was Rage i believe and the double stress kinda prevents TIEs from using that one.

I played an 8-TIE "Youngster" Rage swarm and it was fun and surprisingly effective. Will it win a major event? No, but don't underestimate it.
