Bought the PDFs while waiting for the Boxed Set to arrive...what Awesomeness can I expect?

By keltheos, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

So I'm chomping at the bit, waiting for my full rules to arrive. In the meantime I purchased the PDF books as backup/to get me started (there are a few samples of careers/actions/miscasts/etc in the design docs, DL adventure, and so forth to at least understand the components) and am loving (almost) all of it.

When my Box o' Goodness arrives, what awesomeness should I read through first (actions, talents, etc)? What bits/parts will I drool over and stare at until my eyes dry up? :)

lol - sound almost as rabid as me. I love the dice - and many of the action cards are pretty cool. I also reckon the location cards are sleepers - I love what there is so far - great ideas for random encounters just looking at them - can't wait for more. I also like the career`cards, team cards ... oh my.

Here's something you should do in the meantime:

Buy photo-album sheets for the cards.

Buy 4x5" negative photo album sheets for the career cards.

It beats the heck out of trying to sort them in the box like some MtG addict ;)

jh

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool CCG'er so I have plenty of card sorting materials at hand (thank goodness), but good to know.

Yeah, a little rabid. I've been watching the forums and reading up on this since the fall but haven't bit the bullet. Now that I've read through the rules I'm even more interested in seeing how the game plays (and the crunchy bits for the characters). I've been gaming since the 80's and don't remember being this jazzed for an RPG since Shadowrun (1e, 2e, 3e).

How can you choose just one part to look at? I spread everything out all over the table and read one thing at a time while keeping everything else out so I could see it all out of the corner of my eye. ;)

i was thinking I'd roll around on the cards in bed, but worry about paper cuts.

Wrap yourself in cling film.

I did.

Oh, the smell of new book/card/box printing, how I love thee! *snnnnnfffff* ahhhh

I can't wait to sit down later and start reading through all the cards. I had to drive to an appointment earlier, the box kept calling from the back seat...daaaan...open meeee...come on, you'll have stoplights off the freeway....you know you want to look inside...

So after I wrestled off the plastic and got the box open I cracked apart the three large card packs and thumbed through a couple. Looooove it. Neat to see some cards have much more text to cover more detailed actions/events.

WHEEEEE!!

HAHAHAHAAH. You crack me up!

I felt the same way about opening the box, though. It was so exciting, and there was so much there to be excited about!

You know what's funny?

It's been a while since I've found myself as excited about a new gaming product/system. Part of it is the self-control I've had in insta-buying it when it first came out and waiting for a while to jump in. It's built up some anticipation for me and delayed gratification seems the way to get me excited about gaming after having been through 20 years of RPG/mini/card/etc games. Part of it is the elegantly simple engine in the system. Any game can be a strong one if it's built off a solid core engine and the flexibility and adaptability of this new system hits me on multiple levels. Part of it is the sheer awesomeness of the trappings associated with the game. The art/style/etc lend to the immersive quality of the product and setting (much like the 1e/2e materials did) but with the added bonus of not having a massive amount of rules minutiae to weigh it all down.
