Oh yeah, I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for an RPG announcement.

I'm looking for an anything L5R announcement. A mini's game would be fun.

Absolutely possible. I just hope I won't have to wait for NEXT GenCon to get a new L5R RPG

I have mixed feelings. I'm sure that if FFG did an L5R RPG it would be amazing, but:

I played 1st edition WFRP and really liked it. I found that later versions drifted away from trying to represent a world, and more towards high-powered action. FFG's version of WFRP completed this drift, and was far from what I enjoyed about it. It's mechanically great, but it's not for me.

I played 1st edition L5R and really liked it. I found that later versions drifted away from trying to represent a world, and more towards high-powered action.

I can spot a pattern.

I think that depends how they tweak NDS (if they use that one) for L5R.

SW is cinematic so if they keep on that way...

If they make combat a little more lethal and import honor/status/glory (streamlined) . I think it can be done well.

SOME high powered action is a good thing.

how do they do spell magic in NDS is my question.

Ooooo

Just when you think the the Scorpion can't screw you over...BAM!!

I was super excited, until I saw that it only works for Scorpion characters.

Splash? you want to splash?

Just as effective a splash as "I Am Ready"

Seems less restrictive for Scorpion than Cavalry Reserves is for Unicorn (though only two characters). I guess it having a Influence cost of only one against the two of Reserves means we will see Cavalry characters outside of Unicorn. Otherwise what's the point?

Cavalry Reserves is out of discard pile. Ambush is out of Provinces / Hand.

Cavalry Reserves is playing people you can't play any other way. Ambush is playing people you held back from playing earlier.

They are very different cards. I would argue that Cavalry Reserves is better.

I'm sure we'll get cavalry characters for other clans down the road.

Or...

I would add to that, if you have characters that were discarded due to being face up on a province when it's broken, Cavalry Reserves gives you the opportunity to still use them. Or if you for some reason found yourself having to discard a cavalry character earlier in the game because you needed something different, then CR gives you the chance to make use of them later when they become valid for your late-game strategy.

As stated above, it is possible (even likely) that other clans will get Cavalry people at some point.

It's not too likely that other clans will get Unicorn people. Though the rulebook released last week does leave an opening for peeps with multiple clan alignments.

We just need to actually GET some to splash. Right now it's just Ide Messenger, with some other (presumably) low cost, unrevealed Conflict character.

Reading is tech.

You are right, even though both potentially give you 2 for 1 for your fate the fact that Ambush eats other resources (cards from hand or province) does seem to push Cavalry Reserves above it.

On the other hand a Scorpion deck will be able to target almost all their personalities while Unicorn has quite a few non-Cavalry cards.

I guess that conflict cards usefull for every clan are 3 bamboo shots always. I felt this with Conquest, shen lots of non loyal splashable cards only worked with the splashed faction. Is a little bit disappointing.

That's still one more Unicorn card available to other clans than cav. ^-^

Ack! Ambush in Old5R was my single favourite card. I know this is completely different but why Mr Scorpion?! Why did you have to test my loyalty on Unicorn day just when I thought I'd found my new home?!
