Catfolk: new eventual Runewars faction?

By Xargonaut, in Runewars Miniatures Game

So FFG just announced Legacy of Dragonholt, a narrative cooperative game based in Terrinoth, and I just noticed a mention about a race I had never heard before: the catfolk.

Extract: " Adventurers can be resilient humans, powerful orcs, vigorous dwarves, graceful elves, crafty gnomes, or agile catfolk."

Anybody who is familiar with the Runebound universe have heard of these guys before? Sounds like we got ourselves another potential faction for Runewars in the future...

Could be. I think they'd be as likely candidates as the Mahkim, though. Meaning, probably not likely at all.

Oh, for sure, we're talking FAR future, and only if Runewars is successful. They will most probably do the more classical factions first.

The thing about obscure factions like catfolk and mahkim is that it would be really cool to see them produced, but who would buy them? By that time, I'll already have a substantial army and I'm not sure I'd be looking to field another.

Yeah, good point. We should ask GW about the Tau, hehe. Were they popular when they came out? And now? Because that's a good example of a new "non-classical" faction coming out of nowhere for a game with already well-established factions.

I know virtually nothing about GW's factions, but my impression is that the Tau were very well-received. It could be that Catfolk and Mahkim become coveted armies for experienced and new players alike. That would be exciting, even for players that don't buy them because they would have greater variety in opposing armies.

Tau were very well received back when they came out ('04?), but everything in 40k plays second-fiddle to Space Marines. So, it's a hard comparison because Space Marines get updates every five minutes, while other armies fight for scraps.

I think a cat-people could work very well because it's so unique. At the very least a cat-people unit would be great.

Also, new factions in 40K become popular because they get a codex that is usually OP compared to factions that haven't gotten one recently.

I don't think the cat people have an empire. I am hoping the Baronies get some non-human auxiliaries so they can show off more species without having to risk building an entire army out of them.

I would be interested in cat folk for sure. A better name for the race would be a good idea

Maybe they'll do a cat-folk/dog-folk combo core set like they did with Daqan and Waiqar.

Many players are only going to end up with a single army. The hardcore of the hardcore, maybe 2. 3/4 will be insane remnants of the niche's niche's niche, so I highly doubt we'll see more factions beyond these 4 at all. Maybe as supplementary units based on some cooperative lore, but I doubt anything else. I doubt we'd see a 5th army for a vary long time. GW is a bad example to cite, as they have what, 30 years in the industry where they've continually expanded and 'supported.' We have a good 4 months so far?

I was pretty sure Catfolk had been around in the universe for a while. I really don't think they'll because a faction on their own though. There are too many other options I think they'd go for first.

I agree, if they make em, they'll likely be an ally unit in another faction
