No clear target! (BT/Avenger+Demo list)

By Destraa, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So was toying around with some fanciful ideas that may or may not be effective, but present an alarming issue of target priority before even obstacles are placed. Want to get some feedback on the idea outside of my usual soundboarding partner, as from time to time we end up in a sort of echo chamber as we think very alike. So let me have the full battery armament, fellow Armada players!

I don't think your Fire Control team will get you anything. APT and the Generic crit don't stack as the APT is a face up damage card allocated to the target which is also the first damage card allocated to the target so the generic crit makes it face up (which it already is). ACMs could work though, or ditch Fire Control for Med Team or a SFO.

You could ditch Vader for Motti, Konstantine (probably not) or Moff JJ. Saves you 12-13 points but you loose the rerolls on your two killer ships so buy OE for the GSD and LS for the ISD. Overall you will save points and get extra hull or better turning.

My understanding is that the APT trigger was outside of the deal damage step, and as such, did not influence it, but I could be wrong (the joys of playing this and X-Wing). @Drasnighta, clarification in case I'm incorrect in my logic?

As for changing of commanders, the reason for Vader is that leading shots ONLY affects a front arc shot, your other arcs you've got no way of trying to fix a bad roll, which means on a target that you've BT'd, if your front arc doesn't kill it, your side arc very well might not either. He's an insurance policy to get the maximum mileage from the BT/Avenger combo when it's triggered. If it were an ISD-II, certainly that would work as I have sufficient blue dice on all arcs, but an ISD-II doesn't have the knockdown power needed for the combo unless all four red dice roll hit/hit. As it stands, Jerry is mediocre here as both the ISD and GSD have decent maneuver charts that a nav dial can augment easily. Motti loves ISDs, but I don't feel he'd get nearly the mileage he does when I run twin ISDs.

Get this:

Your Logic isn't incorrect.

But you're wrong anyway, because its specifically been ruled counter to that logic, and is in the FAQ.

Fire Control Team

(...)

If a ship with this card equipped resolves both the Assault Proton Torpeodes critical effect and the standard critical effect, only the damage card dealt by resolving Assault Proton Torpedoes is dealt faceup

Thanks Dras. Like I said, play both X-Wing and Armada, so it's not easy remembering everything.

For what its worth, like I said - your logic was correct. You should be able to stack them, because they should be considered as separate steps, and they should get utility that way... It makes logical sense.

But it is a seemingly illogical RAW that is being enforced here.
