QuickDraw vs Phantom Adv. Cloak

By Scaritus, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This came up in a Vassal game.

Does QuickDraw get to shoot a phantom before it re-cloaks via adv. cloaking device, if said phantom strips a shield?

I think the revenge shot comes before but I wanted to be 100%

Cloaking come first. Step 8 on the Attack Chart has you resolve abilities that occur after attacking that don't trigger another attack first.

QuickDraws ability does say when you lose a shield tho. This happens in step 7 right? It doesn't say after the attack?

Good point, I may very well be wrong then. I forgot that the wording on Quickdraw didn't include 'After defending'

it's in the FAQ

Says resolve at step 9.

seems wrong to me but hey ho.

I would think that Advanced Cloak triggers in Step 8 (after attacking, doesn't perform an attack), and as noted on the FAQ Quickdraw triggers in Step 9 (after defending, does perform an attack).

It's just strange as QuickDraws card text explicitly says...

Once per round, when you lose a shield token, you may perform a primary weapon attack.

the attack steps say you lose shield tokens in step 7. It's like the ability was worded to fit in that step!

I guess the FAQ rules all

If I recall, the timing chart was released just before Quickdraw, as a final arbiter on all timing issues. Then Quickdraw was released and basically instantly broke the timing chart so it needed to be FAQ'd.

The wording of Quickdraw's ability enables attacks at times other than when Quickdraw is defending. The FAQ entry for Quickdraw is a simple solution that elimantes the need for a card errata. It's not the first card that needed clarification to prevent players from mucking things up; it won't be the last.

Exactly this. If you want to be a jerk, bring Electronic Baffle and intentionally stress Quickdraw during the Maneuver Phase. Blow off the stress into a damage to the shield, and attack then. It's fun when you have initiative and your opponent's PS 9 or higher ship hasn't even activated yet.

But more stylish is to intentionally jump over a rock and Palp a hit to guarantee the shot. :D

Quickdraw, as written, does not interact with the attack effects timing chart. The FAQ that makes the QD attack come during Step 9 is presented as a clarification, but it's really an erratum.

Still counts, though.
