Noob uestion: Ally and Villain packs for new player?

By Ram, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I just got myself an Imperial assault and now I am looking for two smaller packs to make the game experience even richer. I am thinking one Ally and one Villain pack.

I would like the packs to be pretty good both campaign and skirmishwise and it would be awesome if they added extra flavor to the game experience. Being an xwing player, if someone asked me this question for xwing, my answer would probably be à kwing (to add bombs and a small turret as well as Miranda and slam) and probably a tie SF (heavy beatet with aux arc and Backfire and Quickdraw).

So, for two small Ally and Villain packs, what would you recommend?

The Jawa Scavenger (especially the elite) is my new favorite for the campaign (you don't need to earn non-unique to be able to use them), and it packs quite a punch in skirmish as well. The Dewback Rider is my previous favorite.

For the rebel side it's a harder question.

If just go for anything that you like the look of!

That being said, newer packs are generally more powerful.

Thanks for the info and link a1bert. I was looking a bit at the Rebel trooper pack and the Grenadieer command card and also reinforcements. Also, BT-1 caught My eye a bit. Those felt along the lines of what i was thinking of, but again im totally new to this game. :)

BT-1 is pretty awesome. But bear in mind that unless you use the Nemeses class deck from Jabba's Realm, you won't be able to play him in your campaign unless you're lucky enough to draw his agenda mission, afford it, and win it. At least not without house ruling.

For figures you can just add to a map without having to earn them, I love the hired guns, and the dewback is pretty cool. I don't have a lot of experience with the Jawas. And the ISB Infiltrators are pretty good too.

Ah, yes... The part of finding them in Campaign... Didnt this of that. So in that senes i guess the generic packs are bettet...

Well, "earning" applies to all ally packs too, whether they're unique characters or not. Only non-unique villains can be used out of the box.

Units that have an expansion box associated with their wave require tiles from the corresponding box for their one of their maps (they each come with one campaign and one skirmish map, and usually one of those can be made only with core tiles). The Bantha is outside of the box waves, but it does require twin shadows tiles for the campaign(?) map.

So waves 1, 3, 7, 9, and the Alliance Smuggler. The entirety of those packs are usable with only the core set.

If you only picked one ally, I'd say Hera and Chopper are pretty good For what you get, especially if you're a Rebels mark like me.

Villian-wise, I'd say Grand Inquisitor. Another Rebels character but he packs a punch and can turn the tide if used properly.

Thanks for the tips, all. I think I will for now settle with Captain Terro and Alliance rangers with an ambition to get Jabbas palace later on. Terro feels like a real powerhouse and a really cool sculpt as well and the rangers gives me a few more options for Rebels. Or would Echo base troopers be better then the Rangers?

I do like the idea about Inq and Hera a lot since they seem to be great pieces and are generic to boot, but I have light canon issues with them. Yeah, I suck...

You need Return to Hoth to play the mission that gives you the Echo Base Troopers, and you need Jabbas Realm to play the Alliance Rangers mission. Their missions are dependent on the tiles you get in the boxes. Of course nothing stopping you from getting them anyway and house ruling something instead of playing their mission.

If you want allies that aren't dependent on expansions, the Wookiees are really good, you could get the troopers, or maybe Hera and Chopper. Personally I'm a big fan of the wookiees

The wookies are on the buylist as well, they look like a good buy for campaign and pretty decent for skirmish as well. I have settled for the Echo base troopers or the Alliance rangers though. I will skirmish a bit before starting up the campaign. So which are the best for skirmish, EB troopers or Rangers? The EB Troopers feels a bit weak-ish to me and I think I prefer the rangers...?

Rangers are better imho

Go with the Rangers over Echo Base, I'd say.
