Rings are destroying the standees

By Baxie, in Star Wars: Rebellion

I love this game, but sadly the design of the standee bases is slowly destroying it.

The cardboard standees are being damaged by the bases. The state of the standees gets continually worse when attaching and unattaching rings to the different characters. Have anyone had ideas to counter this?

Thinking a lot about magnets lately ;)

its happening to my game too : (

Did you know you can actually get the ring on without taking the standee off the plastic base? It's not trivial, but if you angle it the right way, you can :)

As Glucose said, you can get the rings on without taking off the standee. I also put a couple layers of scotch tape on the bottom of the standee, this protects the bottom from fraying if it's removed from the base. I've considered some other more drastic options, but these two have been working ok so far.

I gotta say, FFG really dropped the ball on that design though.

What magnet solutions are you suggesting?

In Armada, I glued washers into the bases of the squadrons to give them some weight. It helps them stay in place somewhat, and also just feels nicer. For my storage solution I have a watch case, in which I embedded magnets around the side, so that the squadrons could be stacked without them touching each other, thus keeping their paint nice.

Anyway, so I like the idea of putting washers into the standee bases, and then perhaps a magnet into the rings. Is that also what you were thinking?

We just half-tuck the stand into the ring. It's more of a "base" than an attachment sometimes.

The stands are absolutely a terrible design, though.

Yes. Sort of. This was my idea. When RotE is out, I'll scan the rings, print them and make a version, that will "snap" to a leader.

We've either put the rings below the standees or just kind of had them on top like a hat. As long as the ring and the standee stay together, it's all good.
