Recently moved to Bloomington, IN and looking for a FLGS. Can anyone recommend any place?
Bloomington, In
As a former resident of that burg- Common Room Gaming is run by an old and dear friend of mine.
The Game Preserve Bloomington has some traction, but in my opinion, it's fallen off a bit.

If you go to Common Room and the guy at the counter is named Oz, tell him Henry says hello.
My wife is an IU alumna. I've been to the Gaming Preserve when visiting her at school, but that was 13 years ago. I liked that you could tell it was a gaming store from across the shopping center. I said "Oooo, I gotta go check that out over there." They were very friendly. But again- 13 years ago. Also, I had a friend that would drive 300 miles to attend events there, so there must have been something special about it. I was more into Horrorclix and LotR CCG (Decipher) back then, but don't recall an L5R presence there.
I'm in Bloomington. The game preserve used to be one of the biggest stronghold stores in the country, back in oldl5r, but around emperor edition the group largely died out, and when I talked to the guys at the store about possible interest in newl5r, they said I was the only one to bring it up. Also, just in terms of other lcgs, I know they don't regularly carry any of them, and I don't believe they have a community for them.
On the other hand, while I don't have much experience with the common room games, I do know for a fact that they have a decently sized community for most (if not all) of the other lcgs, and while I haven't been in contact with any of them (yet), as I don't play any of those games, I would not be surprised in the slightest if there was some people displaying interest in trying out the game there, at the very least in the beginning.
tl;dr, I have more experience with game preserve, but I think common room games is our best bet for an flgs in Bloomington.
also, I plan to try to get some of my friends into the game after I acquire it at gen con, and even if they don't get into it, if nothing else, I'll play with you.
Edited by psychieThere's a startling number of B-ton folks here! I lived there for six years, during grad school. I don't think Common Room Games existed at the time -- we went to the Game Preserve. (In fact, Oz is a friend of mine. Bryan Roberts, too, for those who remember the days when he ran the place.)
I believe common room games opened in 2012. It is currently located next door to the original location for the old Avalon game store (RIP, my second home) on Pete Ellis Drive, near the college mall.

Surprise! I don't live there anymore, but I grew up in Bloomington. Moved away years ago though, I keep meaning to go back and visit but never seem to find the time.
I was there as an undergrad from 2000-2004, then lived there from 2005 or so through 2009. Have so much family and so many friends in the area that I still visit fairly often.

I suspect one or two of you came in recently to ask if we were gonna do it. Resounding Yes! Common Room Games will def be adding L5R to our stable of Tuesday Night LCGs with Organized Play events on sporadic seasonal Saturdays; you can count me among the ranks of people excited for the new release, though will the Crab even accept me back after my long foray into the Shadowlands to the Spider Clan?
I'm about two hours away from Bloomington in Louisville, KY but two of my favorite L5R friends came from there! Glad to know Bloomington is rearing up to have a good scene again. ![]()

Then we overlapped! I was there from 2002-2008.
