Is it me, or does Shades seem like a useless unit. Ok to Sacrafice, but with only one HP, how many cards are they really going to make an oppenent discard?

With their sniping ability, might be that opponent has no Units to defend with and with Shades no cards in hand either. And not drawing more than 1 card per turn. Tough to beat anybody with those handicaps
.
Well ventura, you know how powerful Scout can be (I've used it on you enough times to drill it in)! And at 2 cost, it's easy to get Shade out quickly. So I would say Shade can be a nasty card. Easily targettable by direct damage, but still a great card.
Yes FD, I remember. Hand reduction can be a very good strategy, and I wasn't knocking Scout ability. I was just a little surprised to see a 1HP unit that is Scout.
Dam, what does sniping mean?
As I understand it, sniping is taking out units via cards. Direct damage, HP-reduction, etc. Deck Building section has more on the subject.
There's some posts about sniping here
In regards to surprise at a 1HP unit with scout. You have to remember that the Core Expansion will contain 40 cards each of High Elf/Dark Elf. Much like the cards from the Core Set, some of these cards will be fairly plain. I believe that they chose to highlight the 2 cost, 1 HP, 1 Power, Scout Dark Elf unit because it is powerful considering it is a "basic" unit much like other 1 HP generic units with out any abilities or just one ability.
There can be some strategy with using a 1 HP scout unit. For example, you rush in with a 1 HP scout and a 2 HP unit with a cool action ability. Which do you kill? Lose a card now and kill off the unit with the action ability or potentially suffer from scout again? Giving the enemy a tough choice on what to kill can add layers to the metagame.
Hi,
I think both cards in the article are very good.
Shade is a very good unit. Could be played in first turn into the BF, as it is a valid tactic with Empire already. And you could play a Contested Village too. ![]()
Also a good unit later, considering not only sniping but Khaine's Wraith too. Just kill his attackers and rush with scouts in the next turn.
A very good mix of control elements is appering for DE.
