Next purchase

By warmdown, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Hi guys,

not sure if that is the right part of the forum here, but I'm looking for some advice for my next X-Wing purchase (local dealer has 20% off...).

So far I have the Force Awakens Core set + B-Wing expansion (my favourite ship). On craigslist I also bought an extra T70 Miniature (only with pilots) and the B-Wing/E2 Crew member upgrade card with Ezra (thought it would be a nice combo together with Ibtisam).

I have a few next ships in mind that appeal to me in an optical way, but would like to get some suggestion about what kind of expansions makes more sense now. By that I mean getting as much useful cards as possible, but at the same time without spending to much.

I believe that there were plenty of this topics already posted, and I remember that one guy mentioned to get the rebel aces expansion after the core set, but since I already have a B-Wing I would rather invest in something else. Maybe also considering the current meta - what ships would you not recommend to buy?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers!

Well, it depends a lot on what you want to fly, I'm assuming you want to fly rebs, as that is what you already have?

Competitive? Ghost, ARC, or, if you want fairship, Sabine's TIE, ot core set (or eBay/Craigslist for Biggs), and auzy.

I've heard that triple t70s is not bad, but I don't know if that is still true after this new wave, so for that you'd want a hotr set.

Scum? Jumpy, Lancer, and Scurrg.

Imps? Um, imps aren't doing to well right now. Tie defender and imp vets? Throw in another ship? A striker?

Hope that helps.

Autocorrect is great... except when it doesn't think that ship names are real words.

Sorry for not clarifying this - I only want to fly rebels at the beginning and doesn't really like the looking of the scum stuff (viper..). :)

And yeah, ultimate goal is to win some matches at the stores! So definitely competitive.

Well, Kenyon meant competitive, I'd go for fairship, I've never actually seen it in play, nor played it, nor played against it, but I have heard that it is VERY good.

Kanan Biggs used to be good, not sure any more though.

Norra Rey was making the rounds for a while, but with so many bombs...

Really the most competitive you can get is fairship...

Also, the viper is beautiful.

For value, look no further than Rebel Aces and Heroes of the Resistance! X-Wing rule of thumb, any box that comes with multiple ships is a great deal. Both come with tons of useful upgrades too!

For competitveness, K-Wing (but it's still a boring choice in my opinion). Also, original core set for Biggs and R2-D2.

For fun, the Ghost! Awesome ship. Also, you can build a 100-point fleet with just that ship (although it's by no means competitive :P )! Also, my faves, X-Wing expansion (for Wedge especially), the YT-1300, the YT-2400, and of course the good 'ol Y-Wing!

If you're interested in getting into competition, I'd encourage you to have a look at X-Wing List Juggler and/or Meta-Wing for inspiration, then see what expansions you'd need to build a list you're interested in. Fair Ship Rebels is the current Rebel newsflash (it's an extremely durable four-ship list that's probably a bit difficult to put together). Other Rebel lists I've heard of doing well are Dash & partner (Miranda, Poe ...), Miranda & partner (Nym? ...), Kanan & Biggs. ARCs may fit in there somewhere too. I think Triple T-70s and Rey & Poe are more the strong end of casual or low-level competitive. Sadly, the classic A-, B-, and X-wings (except Biggs) are a bit unfavored right now competitively.

I like the idea of having Biggs - I saw some videos from recent tournaments. Looks like he's quite a character in the game!

Thanks for the links! Never saw these websites before. Do you also have a link for the newsflash list?

This is the Fair Ship Rebels list. By newsflash I just meant it was the latest list in the spotlight. There was a version before the current wave came out with an ARC instead of the Wookiee Gunship as well.

Heroes of the Resistance & Ghost expansion will open up a lot of combos you can use with the ships you have.

The Ghost will give you Sabine. If you buy the B-wing title on ebay you can put a crew on your Bees and turn one into a bomber.

Rey is fantastic both as crew and pilot. She is most often paired with Finn and Kanan.

Those would be my immediate go-to purchases. You get 2 large based ships & two small + 34 upgrade cards between the two.

I second any box with multiple ships. They have a large number of cards in the box, including a few you cannot get with the individual ships.

I wouldn't even worry about competition level until you have a good core of ships and cards, and know what style you want to play.

Also make sure you get a copy of the original core set as well, as it is the only place to get R2 and Biggs, two of the best rebel cards.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I appreciate it.
