I have yet to play on vassal or tts, i love pushing around the physical models. Part of the appeal of this game is using the models to inspire a "movie" in my mind as they move around the table.

Agreed but it has given me an opportunity to play with my friends that live far away. Is it optimal, no. But it is better than nothing.
