I want to be the villain rokugan deserves not the one it needs.
To be honest, I think this could be kinda cool

I'm game to sabotage a clan.
A parable:
Once, as my husband and I sat in a teahouse playing Go, a samurai approached us.
"May I observe your game?" he enquired, bowing politely.
"Of course," we replied, though he bore no mon to identify his ancestry.
As we played, he offered a most peculiar commentary, not on our game but on Go itself. According to him the corners were brokenly powerful (from insufficient playtesting, no doubt), ladders were a design fault, and the Ko rule was a hasty patch. To make it worse, it was evident even to a child that some shapes were better than others; he greatly desired to play a peasant-hat but due to poor balancing was forced to use a bamboo-shoot instead. He had little faith that the game would ever be fixed.
As he left, my husband and I caught one another's eyes and smiled.
"He seeks a game without flaws," he said. "He will seek long in sorrow."
"Pity him not for that," I said, "Pity him instead for being able to perceive the aspects of the game, but instead of using them in his play he perceives them only as flaws to be criticised."
"The fool comes across a pile of boulders and criticises them for not being a road," he said, "A wise man instead builds a castle."

Only for the first pick though. After that, 'everyone' is going to be working with a 'sub-optimal' role pick (assuming the first year the choices are, as you suggest, obvious and standardised, and I don't think you're far wrong). So after the Worlds in November, the roles are going to be 'sub-optimal', cos initial assignments are being made, if I've read the organised play articles correctly, at GenCon.

This should have been posted earlier in the thread. May have stopped it from growing to 9 pages of baseless complaints / counter-complaints.
This is awesome. Please don't get too upset if I steal it.

And then the wise man gets sued, because it isn't allowed to build castles with random boulders you find on the street.

Not without the proper documents, which the wise man procured beforehand, because he is wise.
