Nashtah Pup Deployment Damage?

By ObiOne, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have been playing a lot of Bossk lately and figured I would give the Pup a go. I found the deployment rules(which I could only locate on reddit, why isn't there a PDF), front or rear guides any maneuver, action(unless you do a K-turn) but don't shoot that round.

My question is do you receive a damage card? The original deployment rules didn't mention it. The updated FAQ mentions deploying from destroyed ships that you do take a damage. My local group was about 50/50 so I came here to get an answer.

No, the Pup does not receive a damage card. The only ship that takes a damage card if it deploys from the destruction of another ship is the attack shuttle.

I should look it up but doesn't this mean the ship's deployed from the Carrier blow up with the ship or are they freely ejected as well? If my memory serves there are no uniform ship deployment rules.

In the case of the Nashtah Pup you should note that the ONLY way to deploy it is to have the ship it's on be destroyed. When deployment depends on destruction it is really punitive to say it takes damage from deploying when that's the only way it deploys.

The only ship that doesn't take a damage card when it deploys from the destruction of another ship is the Nashtah Pup , because it has specific deployment rules that override the general rules.

All ships that are docked with another ship suffer damage when the ship they are docked to is destroyed and their deployment is forced. There is no exception to this rule.

The confusion comes from the fact that the Nashtah Pup is, at no time, considered docked with the YV-666. Simply the Hound's Tooth title allows you to deploy the Nashtah Pup from the Hound's Tooth 's guides when destroyed but never instructs you to dock the Z-95 to the YV-666. Docking Clamps instruct you to dock the ships and the Ghost title instructs you to dock the Phantom. [Cards for reference.]

Yup. Hound's Tooth is an upgrade for the YV, it's not a ship until the YV dies. That's the difference.

I suspect had it been designed last year, it probably would have been but them's the breaks.

The Pup is just an escape vehicle. There's no point in damaging it in the only situation where it would deploy.
