Custom miniatures from Hero Forge

By Srba, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I ordered some miniatures from Hero Forge to replace the mini cards for our next campaign. Pretty pleased with the results. Any feedback very welcome and also happy to answer any questions about Hero Forge as it was my first time ordering and it took me ages to decide if I was going to actually go ahead with it or not - they are pretty pricey and, while I'm happy with how they turned out, I'm still not entirely certain it was a wise way to spend the money.

Oh man I love the touches on the book! Well done there. I've used HF for a DnD model as a gift, but you are right - they are a bit pricey. They do turn out really good though. My only complaint with HF so far is the items in hand/on the sides are sometimes ridiculously dis-proportioned but it looks like the gun models you got are all really good. If you look at swords and such they are very odd sizes.

Man oh man those look WAY better than the official ones that are always out of stock.

They cost a pretty penny too though. and aren't pre-painted.

That's true. At $15 a pop I would imagine sticking to your favorite character or two. If you created a full set it would be over $200.00.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, they're defintely too expensive to try to go for a full set, which is a shame because I have designs for most of them.

I agree about many of the handheld items being too big. Also only a relatively small number of the many poses don't look terrible.

Yea, it took me awhile to get the right pose + items in hands for the models I got printed.

The $15 Nylon Plastic version is actually pretty terrible for models. The detail is really poor and it is very textured, making painting it a pain and it doesn't look very good as a finished product. The $30 Premium Plastic they use is really good quality and paints easily. So the cost would get pretty gross if you were to print one of each investigator.

I've got a few more in, here's Jenny:

You appear to be an excellent miniature painter as well, they look fantastic, I am pleased with mine, also ordered from HF, but your painting skills appear to be on a level that I have yet to achieve. Great job.

Thanks, and that’s cool: which investigators have you ordered? I think I’ve got a design for more or less all of the currently released ones but have only ordered 5 so far.

It is indeed possible. Here are a couple I've done but not had printed:

Completed Agnes this evening:

Probably my favourite so far

Dude... you've convinced me to order some of these. Questions, if you don't mind...

1. Are you doing the $15 or $30 prints? In other words, which material?

2. How much model clean up is involved? Are you doing a lot of prep work, or are you just priming and painting?

3. How big are the bases? 25mm-ish?

4. How long did it take between when you hit submit on the order and when they showed up?

In terms of feedback, your paint job looks amazing. I assume you've been doing this for awhile. I've also been painting for awhile, but never considered buying from Heroforge as I mostly do tabletop war games where I'd need dozens and dozens of minis.

I also just noticed that you painted the rims in the character's color. Brilliant. I love everything about this.

1. It’s the $30 material. Only been buying in small batches and even then it’s pretty painful.

2. There is some cleanup involved. I would say there are more bits to remove than something like an imperial assault mini. But most of the bits that require removal are easy to spot and deal with. Most can just be pinged off with a fingernail but a couple of times that left me with a bit of a divot in the mini that then needed to be filled, so a knife is probably better. Overall the quality of the printing is much better than I expected.

3. I’ll get back to you on that. Will give them a measure when I get home.

4. The first time I ordered, it was between 1 and 2 weeks (UK delivery). The second time it was something like 4-5 days. I notice the first time they shipped from the US but the second order came from the Netherlands.

Thanks for your feedback. While the minis do seem expensive, I don’t regret spending the money at all. The whole process of planning, ordering and painting has been really enjoyable. I want to get cracking on Norman ASAP, but feel maybe I should wait to see if the Livre d’Eibon is supposed to look a certain way before I paint him.

Thanks so much for the replies! Will be tinkering on the site soon. It would be awesome if we had a thread where people could contribute Heroforge poses for specific characters that others could then buy.

You’re welcome!

Here they are all together:

That looks truly amazing. Well done. I'm literally surfing Heroforge right now.

Really nice! Many thanks for charing!

is it possible to find models by Name in hero forge?

No, there’s no way to share your designs in a gallery in Heroforge itself as far as I know. Just the links.

Here’s the last of my current batch of minis, Norman Withers:

EDIT: sorry, don’t know how the above got double-posted.

Your Norman is actually my favorite of the bunch.
