Newb Skirmish Rules

By neozeric, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Thanks for your patience with our newbie questions

1) Can the AT-ST (or any massive figure) occupy the same space as a enemy and would it damage them?

2) Can you shoot through friendly figures?

3) Can you shoot through enemy figures to hit another enemy figure?

4) How does line of sight and movement work with the blue outlined spaces on the swamp map?

5) Can jet troopers "fly" over any terrain?

1. No. A massive figure can end its movement on top of another figure and if it does then it pushes that figure. The owner chooses the shortest number of spaces it could be pushed and the figure moves there. Massive figures can push small and large figures but cannot enter a space with another massive figure. Once a massive figures ends it movement on top of another figure and pushes it then it can no longer move for the round.

2. No. Friendly figures block LoS just like enemy figures.

3. No. Unless your figure has an ability that let's it ignore figures blocking LoS.

4. Difficult(blue terrain) doesn't block LoS at all. It does cost and extra movement point to move through when you enter the space for every figure except massive, mobile, or any figures with efficient travel.

5. No. They can't cross any of the black bordered walls. They can ignore blue terrain and the straight red and dotted red lines. This is only for movement and not for LoS.

If a massive figure ends movement on top of non-massive figures, it cannot move again during the same activation. (It can move during other figure's activation again, or during end of round.)

See Large Figures and Massive from the Rules Reference Guide (RRG).

(Also see Line of sight, and line of sight examples from the appendix.)

Thanks guys!

One more :)

With BT-1 his assassin ability. Does that apply to just him or all of your figures?

Assassin only applies to BT-1. Assassin uses "you", which is (almost always) the figure having the ability.

First official tournament tomorrow. Will the maps be assigned to us each round? How about the missions? How are they decided?

Yes, your TO (tournament organizer) will randomly pick a mission from one of the 3 tournament maps in rotation (so you know it'll be one of the 6)

Trying to piggyback without a hijack :)

I am planning on playing in my first organized event of any kind next weekend. I see that it is labeled a "store championship". Is this a reasonable event to play for my first time? i know the basic rules, and play skirmish at home - but want to make sure an event like this is good for beginners.

I know I won't win, I just want to try it out and play some matches and have fun.

Yes, but pretty much all tournaments are reasonable - just expect people to be more competitive and less forgiving about the rules

For example, in a store tournament your opponent/TO might allow takebacks on illegal command cards (trying to play a Droid card on a Hunter) or missed timing instance (I forgot I can do X last round, can I do this now?) or you might see people running goofy lists (ex. wookie list using Chewbacca + Gaarkhan + Wookie warrior)

Most likely it won't be that way in higher-tiered tournaments (missed timing? Too bad) and rules are more strictly enforced (you didn't know you couldn't Take Initiative on my Take Initiative? Too bad but that's illegal and now I know you have Take Initiative)
