Is there any pre-release or launch kit information out yet?

Nope. I hope they will do it. I heard a rumor that the SOR was only ran because of the production shortages and they will not be doing them again. I hope this is wrong.

Well they've announced the Launch Kits for Legend of the Five Rings. Along with Q4 kits in general.

So, considering that both Lot5R and EaW are coming out about the same time, I would assume they would have announced a EaW launch kit at the same time if they were planning to do one.

I looked back at the timetable FFG did the SOR event:

Preview event announced: March 7th

`About a month

Preview Event: April 1-2

About a month

SOR Release: May 4th

Lets look at where we are now, If they announce it this Friday, March 7th was a Tuesday so maybe next week. The event would have to be Sept 9-10 or Sept 16-17 because Nationals in on Aug 31-Sept 3rd and they would not hold 2 events on same weekend. My thought is they may announce the event at or during Gencon, Aug 17-20. Of course all of this is just want I think and most likely is wrong.

They might not announce until closer to the event, and the event might happen closer to the actual release. I think the SoR prerelease was kind of wonky because all the cards were spoiled somehow like two months before the wave was slated to hit shelves. So FFG kinda panicked and had to come up with a way to maintain excitement for the release, so they held a really early prerelease.

I just don't know why they wouldn't do a prerelease, because it's such a great way to build excitement and get free marketing. Other CCGs do prereleases with all their releases, right? FFG seems to want really badly to make this game a "real" CCG, so I don't know why they wouldn't follow the herd.

My guess is that at GenCon they will have some EaW for sale, in limited quantities (like 3 packs per person until it is gone). And also at GenCon they will announce the prerelease and/or launch event that will follow shortly after the con.

Here's hoping. I will let you guys know what they say. Already have my ticket to the In Flight Report.

Preview events were announced BEFORE the leak. Leak was around 20 march (i just checked on FB dates of posts discussing the leaks). So only a month before release.
So they didn't panic. It wasn't reactive at all.
