Quickstarter?

By DarthDude, in Genesys

Will there be a Quickstarter ahead of Q4 as is usual for many new systems (as was the case for SW with the Beginner Boxes) ? Or maybe some official can throw some bits about the mechanics at us to chew on? :D

They might do their Demo from Gencon as their Quick Starter.

Hopefully, I am already hyped halfways.

I know their narrative dice system from Star Wars very well and I love it. I know their system can handle equipment and vehicles wonderfully, so creating Zords for my young one should be a cakewalk. The selling point for me would be how they handle superpowers and magic. If they convince me in this point I will happily throw my money at them for Genesys, like I did for their Star Wars :D

Makes it sound like it would more a Runebound Genesys Quick starter rather than Genesys by itself?!

Hopefully not. That is if FFG wants to convince future customers of the versatility of the generic system as they promise in their blurb. I'm not interested in yet another fantasy setting (may it be interesting or not) with setting specific mechanics. They promise the outlook of a generic system which can handle every setting, show, movie, PC game. That's what I am heavily interested in and would be willing to throw much money at^^

An approach like they did with SW beta core rules (please pdf and not only print this time) for the public would be nice. A public beta might even give them more input from a broader base of "playtesters".

Right here....

Gaming Group / Company: Fantasy Flight Games
Short Description: In this Runebound adventure, the PCs pursue Eliza Farrow to the infamous city of Nerekhall. But what does 1 of the most deadly vampires in Terrinoth want with a city stepped in demonic corruption?
Long Description: This Genesys adventure is set in the Runebound world of Terrinoth. Pre-generated characters and all materials required to play will be provided.
Game System: Genesys

Darth GM put up the gencon game information. It's not even so much as a quickstarter or even beginner product. It's a game... being run... at Gencon. That's it really. My work doesn't block this site (but they block Gencon, go fig) so I can't see, but this looks like it's just a game being run.

You buy ability to get in on games. This is one of the many that are run at the con... This one is just being run by FFG, and a company sanctioned/paid GM. There is no "release book with this" as far as we can see, this wasn't even found by official FFG release. This was just Darth GM finding it on the games offerings at Gencon.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, I'm just saying, "lets not get carried away folks." This doesn't even hint that there will be anything that people get to take home, much less purchase. Basically, they will have a GM, running their game... in Genesys. and that's it. They decided to do Runebound. If you are going to gen con, you can spend your tickets playing this game, with their in-house GM.

At Origins I've spent a day, sitting in the GURPS room playing games that they offer, by their folks. It was a blast, and MVP got schwag, but it was just what they had laying around, not a huge promo type deal. I mean, it's a gaming convention, and companies like pushing their stuff. I get it. But it's not like a whole release major deal or even a product.

Might they release something like that with this? Maybe. But it's so infinitely unlikely, that I'm pretty certain, this is just a game. The dude running it will probably even have a SWRPG core book with sticky notes in it for the changes they are working on.

As far as a public Beta... I mean, they don't have time for that to come to any benefit before the game releases. In all other cases they released the Beta long before they started production on the final book... FFG has not only told us that the final book is coming, but it's also on the upcoming products page, you will be able to watch it head to the printer, and then ship, and finally head out of the warehouse to your FLGS or Amazon or wherever you get your stuff. But, there is no time to even print and run a Beta, much less print, run, distribute, play, receive feedback, then release the 2.0 Beta for farther testing, play, receive feedback, and then use all feedback in the game before production, because it's in production now. and should be in our hands in 4-6 months from now.

added punctuation that was missing.

All clear and fair, one can still dream and you are probably right. It would be just satisfing if there were articles coming ahead of the release date like they did with many other of their products, scratching a bit at the mechanics. The only thing they revealed so far was the parts of the mechanics we already knew from SW and the promise you could do any setting with it.

It would be nice if the beta testers were allowed to spill some intel of the playtesting. That would surely suffice.

The game was announced in June. It will be released this December. I'm sure there will be articles about Genesys when it's closer to release. Which isn't for four months.

The Beta Testing for Genesys, I would wager, is mostly Star Wars. The mechanics were pretty ruggedly tested. They don't need a long beta test period for the switch to generic, I'd think.

This December? Ah, okay, I was thinking somewhere in Q4 which could've also been in two months. Well, then it's time for some patience, then.

FFG's notion of releasing in any particular quarter is subject to a lot of variation, so it's often at the very end of the specified quarter. Although lately, deadlines have been slipping even past that....

A "beginner box," intro adventure, or the like would be nice, but as we don't see anything like that in the "Coming Soon" section, I doubt will be seeing anything before the main game. I suppose they could put out a download only game, but that doesn't seem likely.

I'm guessing out best bet will just be to wait and hear back from people who go to Gencon to get some reviews of the game.

Im thinking Q4 was someones guess a long time ago and they have not bothered updating it. From what im told FFG game dates are very soft tell their "at the printers" then your a few months away. Also they would be hitting us with more articles if it was just around the corner.

Basically, if we don't start seeing articles about genesys or see it listed as at the printer by the end of the month then odds are where not getting it in 2017.

Unfortunate, but id rather let this one bake a bit longer than have it come out all dowy and ew.

They will still use beta rules at GenCon, so the Beta phase is still not finished. An open beta is apparently wishful thinking. Hopefully we get a glimpse from the Genesys session at GenCon. I know all the skill mechanics in the Genesys article. What I'd love to learn is how they manage magic/supernatural powers.

Q4 was mentioned as the anticipated release date in the announcement article FFG put out.

I suspect the beta phase is very much finished. Q4 is the expected release date. There's no way they could have any sort of beta testing, gather feedback, and make the required edits, and have the book release by the end of the year, or even the following quarter for that matter.

More than likely, the rules edition at the GenCon events is listed as "Beta" to indicate that the rules simply aren't published as of yet.

However, it would be pretty darn neat if they supplied some sort of advanced water-down version of the rules to the GenCon event attendees. It wouldn't be a true beta, but it would give us something to sink our teeth in to while we wait for the final product to release.

Very true, something to wetten the appetite and keep the expectations on a high level would be sweet. There are a couple of settings I want to realize with a generic system and my attention was only recently drawn towards Genesys and now I am pondering thoroughly to choose Genesys as my generic system of choice, Open Legend and Cortex Prime, being the alternatives. But I am convinced of the skill mechanics and hope dearly the rest of the system will enthuse me as well.

I was told in another thread, it will not be publishedf before December, rather in Q1 of 2018. But then, I would be happy to be surprised by an early Q4 date :)

Who knows. FFG keeps their release dates intentionally vague (See: Ghosts of Dathomir and Fully Operational for why).

When their release schedule is consistent, it generally takes about 3 months (give or take a few weeks) for a book to hit shelves after it is announced. But with shipping delays (see above), who knows. Q1 is a safer assumption, but I am an optimist, so I am expecting a Christmas release.
