Why is the B-Wing not a T-Wing?

By Lightningclaw, in X-Wing Off-Topic

The A, X, Y, and U all have the letter discernable in their profile, except for the B-Wing... except perhaps from the top down. Even then, the head-on profile is more obvious and looks like a (lowercase) T...

Why?

And Y. Also lowercase.

The only way I can make it look like a (lower case) b is by looking at it's side when it's upside down*

So mayber it should be called the "b-wing"?

* Come to think of it: The B-wing has a rotating cockpit so technically it's never "upside down."

That makes sense, because of Dagger Squadron Pilot.

Consistency, tho.

There is a canon Blade Squadron. Braylen Stramm flew with Blade Squadron B-wings at Endor.

Okay. I'll take a look at the links later because my internet is really slow. Less than .80 Mbps.

Because when they were making the models for the movie they were referred to as model A and model B.

Visual effects artist Bill George designed what was originally labeled the "B fighter" some people even called it the "Bill-Wing Fighter".

Basically no one thought to give it a proper name and so we got stuck with B-wing.

Whats really interesting is that there is no letter B in the Star Wars language of Aurabesh or X and a few other letters.

The E-Wing doesn't look much like an "E" either.

Turn it on its side and squint a little.

So, the X and B are also E Wings, then? ;)

Wait it get's even beter: In typography you have a cross shaped symbol called an Obelisk. It is also called a dagger .

See the resemblence?

Having rebel ships named after typogarphic symbols would open up a lot of possibilities for new craft. Asterix-wing anyone?

Doyleist gotta go with the type A and B: Watsonian however says "it's aurabesh, so A, B, X, Y, U and Z don't make sense anyway!"
