RPG: Kitsune magistrate school

By TheWanderingJewels, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I had this question from a player and for the life of me I cannot find it. Is there such a thing in the 4th edition?

Not as far as I know. From my Spreadsheet, these are the only Kitsune schools:

Kitsune Shugenja L5R Basic Fox Kitsune
Child of Chikushudo BoE Path Fox Kitsune
Kitsune Artisan StE Path Fox Kitsune
Kitsune Ranger GC Path Fox Kitsune
Kitsune Summoner SC Path Fox Kitsune

Kitsune are a shugenja family typically, and don't really fill that role in Mantis, at least in my mind.

Are you sure they didn't mean the Kitsuki Magistrate/Courtier (Dragon)?

Kitsune: Summon Woodland Critters (And other earth spells)

Kitsuki: Sherlock Holmes style Magistrate (And some other social stuff)

That reminds me I need to finish writing my L5R fanfic the Kitsuki and the Kitsune.

Might you treat us to a brief synopsis? as I am rather curious as this point and am always looking for nifty NPCs to toss into my games.

Yes. She's playing a Kitsune Shugenja. It's for my Scorpion Victory setting I've been running for about 15 years. The short form is that the Scorpion held Otosan Uchi during the Coup until the Crab decided to back them. Things diverged from there

Then I would suggest that a school is not necessary. The basic technique for Kitsune Shugenja are actually quite useful for investigating stuff: Earth Spells are handy that way, and being able to ask the victim's horse for clues can be very handy.

If she really wants to have a magistrate technique, consider the Emerald or Jade Magistrate paths at Rank 4. A more extreme solution would be to do some sort of multi-school, different school thing combined with the Advantage that lets you mix Shugenja and non-Shugenja techniques. Your choice there is Kitsuki Courtier, Doji Magistrate and Soshi Magistrate.

Since we're talking Magistrates (and someone wanted interesting NPCs), I once had an NPC Magistrate from the Doji family who had received his schooling from the Kitsuki. The local clan magistrates found his insistence upon physical evidence to be embarrassing, so they sent him off to a distant province. His name? Doji Ikabod.

Pretty sure you're not supposed to be able to mix shugenja and bushi techniques, which would rule out the Doji and Soshi schools.

I think I remember what it was now. There was a feat in Oriental Adventures that let you multi-class into or out of a Shugneja class.
