Silence

By Boom Owl, in X-Wing

Anyone else just getting started with the hype for silence?

Paired with a proper A-Wing re-release this could tilt gameplay firmly towards flying small manuverable bombless and turretless ships. Now that Turrets, Bombs, Turtles, and Missles have all seemingly recieved some buffs or wider use with Wave 11 the timing feels right .

FFG scientists might consider following this complex questionably inaccurate math equation I have spent the past 48 hrs working trough in the lab and things should work out well:

X-Wing = 50% Small Manuverable Arc Dependent Ships + 20% Large Ships + 20% Turrets/Bombs + 5% Spaceship Noises + 5% Star Wars Quotes + 1% Knight Rider

This is what a Boom Owl looks like:

I have very unrealistic expectations for how awesome this ship will be including a subtle but effective tightly balanced general improvement to the Phantom, Interceptor, Striker, and Advanced Prototype.

Get to work BB8 we all know your actually an Imperial spy.

Evil BB-8 Suggests something like the following:

PS8 Kylo Ren ( 28 pts )

3 Attack

3 Defense

2 Hull

3 Shield

Pilot Ability: If you are not stressed and your shields are down at the start of combat you may add 1 attack dice to primary attacks or assign an evade.

Actions: Focus, Barrel Roll, Boost

Mods: EPT, Canon, System Upgrade, Tech Upgrade, Evil Astromech

Dial: 1 Hard turns and banks, all 2s, all 3s, 4 straights, 5 straight, 3 tallon rolls

Evil Astromechs would be primarily offense / mobility focused (maybe use shields as a resource like QD) no regen or defensive buffs.

Kitted out it would sit at about 34-40 pts so it could still fit with 2 other Imperial Aces.

As a huge fan of A-Wings and Interceptors, I'm on board with the standard "+1 Shield, +1 Action, +Tech, +slightly better dial" trend for Force Awakens era versions of ships.

Silence will fall when the question is asked.

Except this isnt a FO version of an older ship. It LOOKS like it was adapted from the TIE Adv crossed with an Interceptor, but it has no direct counterpart to get the +1shield, action, and tech bonus from the base frame.

I'm guessing its another 3/3/3/3 platform, given FO ships tend to have more shields than usual and it combines the durability of the TIE Adv and the attack power of the Interceptor. As for the dial, probably similar to the Aggressor (no green turns, otherwise awesome). No idea what upgrades (besides tech) it would have though, if any. Remember imperial ships tend to be oddly light on upgrade slots, with the large ships, bombers, and SFs being the exception (heck even half the large ships arent given very much freedom in upgrades)

First things first, it is called a TIE Silencer, not just silence.

Second, did this really need another thread? Could this have not been combined with one of the other (at least two) other threads about this ship?

@That Blasted Samophlange

Silence, this thread is about Knight Rider.

not a fan of interceptors at all, imo 3 hull 3 agi is just far too much of a dice based crapshoot

but this thing is def a fair bit beefier, hopefully hitting 5/6 combined health

really hoping "silence" (a staple condition of many rpgs) is added to this game and that it shuts off opposing pilot abilities when certain conditions are met

The hype is so real. Especially since my squad builds and scenarios are thematic. Really looking forward to flying it with my FOs, SFs and upsilon against the Resistance scum! It'll be real nice to have variety to the resistance and first order! :D

It doesn't make much sense in terms of space ships (silence is a spell that prevents you from speaking, thus casting spell) and Kylo already has an ability.

Could totally see a pilot having a "Silence" ability.

"When a ship you have targetlocked attempts to utilize their pilot ability, you may spend your targetlock to negate it. You may also spend it to stop an ability that is used by another ship"

Potentially super deadly, but cant COMPLETELY shut people down since you need to keep getting a targetlock. Also would probably be PS5 since that seems to be where the more quote unquote brutal skills tend to be lately.

In some cases, annoying, as say Poe would have to spend his focus or opt to just take that extra hit this one attack.
Other cases, brutal, as you could shut off Dash's ignoring rocks and WHAM he cant broll off that rock now.

Also it would really, really eff with Ryad rofl

What i mean by the "use" context would be things like Shara. Her ability doesnt do anything for herself, someone else "uses" her ability. When they declare theyre using her targetlock, spend yours to cancel that and its not spent. Your targetlock has to be on her and not whoever is using her ability.
Probably not the best way to explain it without a direct example in the pilot ability.

Right! Silence is Euron Greyjoy's ship. Because he cuts the tongues out of everyone on his crew.

I'm positive I've said this before, but I wish the TIE S/F had looked like this. It's a recognizably classic Star Wars silhouette, but also looks _different_ enough from the TIE FO, TIE LN, and TIE IN that it's easy to tell apart at a quick look.

Ah well. HYPE INTENSIFIED!

Could also just be Kylo's new pilot ability so hes not stuck with a "After are hit" effect on a ship thats clearly not a beefy monstrosity that can take it.

Unless the Empire gain access to shield Regeneration. This has been mentioned before.

All you have to do is errata off the "no imperials" clause on Ray Shield.

The only thing that could possible make stupid is Omega, and I doubt that they even considered him when adding that clause.

A title which gave you shield regeneration would be cool.

TIE/sl: TIE Silencer only: 1 point. When you perform a green maneuver, you may instead treat it as a white maneuver. If you treat it as a white maneuver you may recover `1 shield(up to your original shield value).

oh right, it's a title, and this isn't wave 2, so no points. nvm

Honestly I'm not even sure Omega Leader would want the Pulse Ray Shield if she could have it. Predictability is a curse.

TIE Silencer looks sick. Can't wait to see it in the movie. Hopefully it gets more screen time than the TIE Striker.

New Star Wars needs more space battles.

Maybe this ship will be 3/4/4/1, the first native ship to have four agility. It's dial will be like an E-Wing to avoid Push abuse and the title will enable it to boost with a 2 speed template.

EPT / Missile / Tech
Focus / Target Lock / Boost / Barrel Roll
Kylo will be PS8

You know it's going to happen..........

Reminiscent in design of the Empire's TIE interceptor and Darth Vader's TIE advanced, Kylo Ren's TIE silencer is an angular fighter equipped with laser cannons and missile launchers.

It is. More or less. 3 Hull and 3 Shilds I would bet.

Hopefully Boost as an action. Empire needs an sturdy ship that can use AT. I would guess 3 / 2 / 3 / 3. So you have to choose between AT and LWF!

Silencer huh? Well, since the designers just designed and blessed us all with unlimited bombs and Super-Biggs lists that can laugh-off 15 dice attacks, all ships like the new A-Wing and TIE Silencer will have to have 7 dice primaries and green K-Turns. Yeah, creep man, creep.

While I postedthis in the other thread(s), I'll repost here as well. There is a small chance, very small, this could be the first imperial (First Order) ship with an astromech slot. Note this would be a new icon. This theory is based in the Lego leak, which has BB-9E in the set. Now, the 3.75 scale action figure scale vehicle silencer does NOT come with this droid, so take this theory with a grain of salt.

My other theory is that the Silencer, as a space superiority fighter, may have access to the Jam action. With the Upsilon having Coordinate, and the Auzituck bringing Reinforce, it seems likely that other non energy based actions can be crossed over from Epic. And limiting an action by inflicting stress could be a means of silencing an enemy.
