I want to try to get into swarm tactics but I don't know what ship to focus on:
TIE Interceptor
TIE-ADV-PROTO
TIE/FO
TIE Phantom
TIE Defender
What are your experiences with non-TIE Fighter Imp swarms?

Why you gotta miss the Striker?
TAP is too expensive and save from Inqui, doesn't have enough damage. It would need some TIE pilots like Scourge or Mauler Mithel to make it work.
The FO is decent, but not as a proper swarm. I ran 5 all 9-s TIEs a few times, it was nice, but at that point you are better off with Interceptors..
of which I used a Royal Guard AT Targeting Computer Crackshot 4 ship miniswarm in epic. It was scary. It cleared a large portion of an Epic board in 1 round.
Phantom and Defender is waaay too expensive for a swarm.

Oops. Are Strikers good?
3 dice attack, quasi 3 dice defense, poor man's phantom reposition before moving... pretty decent. Lacks shields to survive, but can punch hard, and it is hard to predict. Also you can fit 5 of them in a squad.
5 TAPs with cruise missiles and title. Gogogogogo.

That... looks scary. If you fly them good (not that hard with that dial), and manage to keep them alive until they can TL at low PS... scary ****.
2x Tempest Squad w/ x1, Cruise Missiles, Guidance Chips, Sensor Jammer (24 each)
3x Imperial Trainee w/ Adaptive Ailerons (17 each)
This could be very potent. Advanced with Jammer should survive an engagement to take a Target Lock before doing a 4k turn and launching chipped missiles while strikers either eat fire fore the missile carriers or get ignored to launch 3/4 dice volleys from the flanks.

None of those
but...
TIE Advanced - now we're talking! My favs in a swarm in both standard and Epic. First of all be in no doubt Accuracy Corrector is the way to go on the generics (sorry @wfain ). This means they usually take their action as an evade. Super tanky and reliable two hits every attack (only slightly less than a 3 attack with focus average damage and it cannot be modified further). A lot better than Sensor Jammer - I've found most of the time people are going to spend the focus anyway and it does nothing to boost the pitiful attack value 2. Even in Epic where huge ships can't use focus token Sensor Jammer is useless as the huge ships attack someone else. That leaves the Missile slot and mod. The mod is invariably Guidance Chips. Then you have two real contenders Cluster Missiles or Proton Rockets. Clusters pair very nicely with AC as yore guaranteed an minimum two hits per attack and occasionally you'll get three with GC. But Prockets give you the spike damage to get through high agility defense and only need a focus token with pairs well with a lower PS. I would not take Tom Cruise Missiles for low PS Advanced. They are definitely better on higher PS Advanced (I've run them on Juno and Vader) that have ATC - you need that target lock anyway so you've always got one ready to fire the Tom Cruise Missiles at the opportune time. So in summary my favourite build is
Tempest Squadron Pilot (24) - TIE Advanced
Proton Rockets (3), TIE/x1 (0), Guidance Chips (0), Accuracy Corrector (3)
Blair Bunke recently tried four bombers, three with unguided and the fourth with opsec, and a sienar with TLT. It's a nice five ship swarm.
Want one heck of an alpha strike? At PS10, Omega Leader locks pretty much whoever is the best target. All three TIEs can use OLs lock to fire their Cruise Missiles, and then if they took their own, use it to reroll anything, and Guidance Chips to adjust as needed, and Juke if they still have their Evade token.
"Omega Leader" (21)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Targeting Synchronizer (3)
Baron of the Empire (19)
Juke (2)
Cruise Missiles (3)
Guidance Chips (0)
TIE/v1 (1)
Baron of the Empire (19)
Juke (2)
Cruise Missiles (3)
Guidance Chips (0)
TIE/v1 (1)
Baron of the Empire (19)
Juke (2)
Cruise Missiles (3)
Guidance Chips (0)
TIE/v1 (1)
Total: 100
5 strikers w/ LWF+Title are indeed valid.
Theyre kinda difficult to fly but they are quite mean when done right.
Howlrunner Swarm Tactics
Mauler Mithel Snap Shot

Get the 7 dice PS 8 attack with a reroll at least once, consider it a job well done, and lose the match in a glorious glorious blaze
I'm currently in love with the Slaughterhouse Swarm. Howlrunner, Scourge, Youngster, Zeta Leader with Crackshot, Omega Leader with Comm Relay and Juke.
