Your Favorite Terrible Ship

By Jabberwock150, in X-Wing

I love flying Firesprays and TIE Punishers......What ships do you love to fly that really aren't that great?

T-65s. Biggs, obviously, but I can't help but bust out Wes, Luke, Hobbie and Tarn more often than I probably should be if I was purely playing to win.

Kihraxz and TIE PWNisher... Soon their time shall come!

Firesprays as well. Love their lazy flying style. Why turn around when you can just fly on past?

Hwk because people see the 1 attack and still complain about it and act like it's a bad ship because of it. TLT says hi. Even fun with ion or dorsal.

The HWK is probably the most underrated ship in the game.

Rebels: T-65s (I have never once flown Biggs), Z-95 Headhunters, non-turreted Y-Wings (I love ions on my BTL-A4!), and I've heard the Ghost called a terrible ship but I love that thing!

Imperials: TIE Interceptors, Firespray (I might be grabbing a second one), TIE Punisher, and the Lambda.

Lt. blount is hilarious with advanced homing missiles. "Oh, your ace in arc at range 2? get wrecked." Also fun for removing stealth device on tokened ships.

UPSILON! Something about those four attack dice...

And also B-Wings. But I gave up on them a whole ago.

The Punisher. It was love at first sight. Even before I played the game, I wanted to buy that model just for the sake of having it. Then I bought it and quickly realized how bad it was, but that never stopped me from playing it.

I just love the shape of the Bomber, and a Punisher is ramping that up to 11. Even if it never gets a proper fix (I hope it will), I will still play it. I think it is my 3rd most played ship, right after Vader and Soontir, and it is currently competing with Quickdraw.

I liked the Scyk even pre fix, and of course the Punisher.

Blount is an instant add to any list if I have the spare points just for stripping off stealth devices :D

I don't fly B-Wings nearly as much as I should. I usually fly Keyan with Hera, expert handling (sometimes wired), accuracy corrector, and ion cannons OR Nera with FCS, weapons engineer, ion cannons, expert handling, Extra Munitions, and whatever torpedo I can cram into that ship.

Hwk 290 & the Scyk. I run a pair of each and I love to see my opponents go from arrogant to utter disbelief as I go 100-0.

I'll have to say the TIE Punisher as well. Emperor knows I have tried to make that ship sing but it keeps getting kicked in the undercarriage too hard to carry a tune.

X-wings (besides Biggs). B-wings (which didn't used to be terrible).

Firesprays (which aren't terrible, but certainly aren't great).

HWK-290 ... I so want to love that ship. Roark with Ion Turret, Deadeye Nera Dantels with Flechette Torps, Swarm Tactics Garven, and a Z-95 was my first ever tournament list, back when Phantoms and Fat Turrets ruled and a PS12 flechette torpedo plus an ion turret could make Whisper mortal, briefly. Shame the dial is so terrible.

Anything with Ion damage paired with a Tractor beam. Things like Ketsu Onyo + Double ICT Y-Wings. The TLT is the obvious better choice but for casual games using a paired ICT is a lot funnier. Flying a big ship off the board takes precedence over winning especially in games without time limit.

It's likely because it is the clearest "bad" ship in the game by a wide margin with guns for hire on the horizon. Pretty much every other ship has seen some quality usage at one point or another in the history of the game.

I'm going to have to go with the much maligned M3-A Scyk. I've flown Serissu and 3 TPVs with Manglers and Mindlinks to great effect in tournament play. It's by far my favorite list right now. I just hope the rumored nerf to Mindlink is just that, a rumor.

you'll see a lot more of it if minefield mapper is ruled to include EM tokens....

Maybe in casual games for the "wtf" effect. Any smart player will realize running right through it means you now are playing against 3 tie punishers with minimal damage, a bet almost any list would make.

If you are for some reason scared of it, you can just fortress and win against the 6 dice in salvo.

So you think 1 with clusters + some smart rock choice and placement isn't worth it's points? Not everyone is silly enough to go all out and try to castle somebody with them

Imperial Boba Fett

B-Wing Keyan Farlander

Both are pretty much only bad because they cost a tiny bit to much to kit out.

No I don't because the punisher has one of the worst dials in the game and is a poor platform that will still struggle to pay for itself even if mapper does benefit you in some way. :( And keep in mind that any handicap you are giving your opponent will become your handicap as well if your opponent is a decent player.

I would love to be proven wrong though.

If not though, at least they can wreck face in epic with mapper. ?

Firesprays by a mile.

Also while I wouldn't' call them "bad", since they seem to have fallen off the map again as of late I'd add the tie advanced as well.

Free AC with evade every turn is pretty decent.

The Starviper MII preview kept mentioning that they didn't change the dial, I was hoping this was a hint at a new dial for t-65 (it lacks thematic speed), but it might be for the punisher. Can anyone say, "Champions of the Empire" expansion pack, and "Rebel Veterans" expansion?

EDIT: instead of rebel vets being an aces style pack, it is a "most wanted" type pack, that turns your scum Ys to rebel, fixes rebel Ys, fixes E-wings (they are disproportionately overpriced compared to X7s and Starviper Mk2s, also the non Corran pilots lack, well, usefulness), fixes t-65 X-wings (duh), makes A-wings hilariously fast, and fixes B-wings.
