Force Illusion Q

By Darth Seridur, in Star Wars: Destiny

Just seen on a Starkiller base video, that you can now block the same attack with shields AND force illusion.

Example: Phasma shoots Han for 5 dmg. (2base and +3 from Jetpack).

Han has 3 shields and Force Illusion.

In their example of the new rules changes, they said there were now 2 options:

1. Block all 5 with Force Illusion as the rules for shields have changed so "block" abilites are simultaneous and you can choose which order to resolve in. Easily understandable.

2. Block 3 damage with shields. Then block remaining 2 with Force illusion. Is this correct? As it seems a change from how things used to work.

If so, can you explain how option 2 works as I am struggling to understand why it now works.

Thanks.

It is a very specific rule on force illusion. It says YOU choose to use shields or FO first.

Force illusion and shields (and armor plating) have identical trigger conditions, meaning you get to decide the order that they enter the queue.

So Option 2 now works despite the fact that Force Illusion isn't preventing the whole 5dmg, only the remaining 2dmg?

All because of that identical trigger condition.

RR p16:

"Shields block damage before it is taken. Shields must be
used to block damage, if possible. Other effects that block
damage do so at the same time, and can be used before or
after shields, the same as any other simultaneous abilities."

So you can block 5 with FL and leave shields intact or block 3 with shields and 2 with FL.

Thanks. We have been having a debate in my gaming group and none of us were sure.

At the moment when Force Illusion is resolved, there are no "whole 5 damage", there are only 2 damage that would be taken, so it is preventing all damage

So just a quick question since I've had people get hang up on the "before damage is dealt" and that if there are shields then there is no way that damage could be dealt (not willing to see the "block" part of it).

3 shields and force illusion on a character. Opponent resolves a single 2 melee damage die. I can then choose to either mill two cards if I still have two left in my deck or remove two shields.

At least that is my interpretation.

Read about shields and other blocking effects, RR. p.16. You will find there all you need including this sentence: Each shield blocks 1 damage that is dealt to the character
