2x Starters decent as a basic game?

Hi All,

Just wanted to get some opinions on whether just getting one of each starter would make a satisfying enough game for 2 people in isolation. Understandably it wouldn't have the depth other cards would bring, but would still be fun for a pick up and play kind of game?

I'd say if you wanted to get a feel for the game, without to much up front investment, then you should buy them. There are some good cards in both starter decks. Unfortunately, you won't be able to play with the maximum required deck(30 cards). Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Two starters is a legitimate game in its own right, and a fantastic play experience!

If you like it, my suggestion is to then buy a second copy of each starter - then you'll be guaranteed to have 30 legal cards for each player, and two pretty good decks (two-dice-Finn/two-dice-Rey versus two-dice-Kylo/Trooper/Trooper). After that, any packs you buy are just more options, but you don't need to be desperately looking for more characters, or characters that fit the points costs. You will also both be able to attend casual play nights and any tournaments you want, and these decks, though not the best ever, are still pretty good!

It would play out more like a card based board game in scope and replayability. This isn't a bad thing at all, but it wouldn't be as vast as say buying one of the LCG cores like Netrunner. There will be more starters in December, so just playing starters is viable and will get a bit more complex soon.

If you wanna play just like that in home, yes 2 starters are perfectly fine. We ran a prerelease event in december with only starters available and it was fun. It can be short lasting but then you can decide if you want to expand your card base.

I would not get more than 1 of each starter. In Awakenings FFG pulled a nasty one by including all the crap rares from the starters in the boosters but not the good rares.

The only cards you will want to buy as singles later will be a second force throw, mind probe and maybe a Finn. The rest you will draw in boosters anyway.

You also do not need to many light sabres and F11 blasters, so rather try for more characters and other gear. Even the common cards are pretty much the same in both starters, so you are limiting yourself.

Rather buy the equivalent in boosters.
