I have just gotten into descent and am looking to buy an expansion.

The chains that rust, manor of Ravens and trollfens are all the same cheap price (Australian) and I'm wondering which I should get.

For what it's worth, I don't recommend mists and chains as first expansions. They're a different flavor than all the rest in terms of quest objectives, and hybrid classes are a thing of their own.

Fun in their own right for sure, but not the simplest place to start. Of the ones you mentioned, I'd go with Trollfens.

Why Trollfens, Zaltyre? It was actually the absolute last expansion I bought?

Edit: this was going to be a comparison of TF vs LotW, but I just blabbered on about the weaknesses of LotW. Sorry.

I'm not Zaltre, obviously, but I 'll give my thoughts.

I think it shows that LotW is the first expansion released.

For instance, the items in general are a bit weaker than in later expansions. See trident vs halberd, or scale mail vs Nerekhall plate.

Fire imps aren't that great for damage... I find them not very useful past the 2nd act 1 quest. They are agent-friendly, though.

Minion hybrid sentimentals don't get that much better in act 2. (The master is a beast in either act, I think.)

I can't speak to the quests, but user LeeroyPorkins has voiced his experience recently, I believe.

Terrain wise, I think the tiles are sort of bland.

One man's opinion. Now, flavor/artwork wise, this is probably my favorite expansion overall.

Manor is cool, too, but I actually really enjoy the prophet and the quests in trollfens. Swampy and wet, plague worms and harpies are both cool monster groups- and the infector deck!

Plague worms seem cool, don't really like the look of the harpies and oh my Dog does the prophet class burn through stamina. I can't comment on the quests as I haven't played them yet.
