Dice vs Result

By brownj23, in X-Wing Rules Questions

There has been some contention in my local group about the difference or lack of difference between dice and dice results. This specifically relates to lightweight frame and its text: " When defending, after rolling defense dice, if there are more attack dice than defense dice, roll 1 additional defense die."

Do things like advanced targeting computer, Finn, accuracy corrector, etc that specify add/cancel results instead of add/cancel dice have an impact on frame.

My my opinion is that based on other rulings results and dice are used interchangeably. However some locals think there are differences between the 2.

Please help. And specific FAQ or rules ref or frank emails are appreciated!

MODIFYING DICE
Players can distinction dice by spending focus, evade, and target lock tokens and by resolving card abilities. Dice can be modified in the following ways:

• Add: To add a die result, place an unused die displaying the result next to the rolled dice. A die added in this way is treated as a normal die for all purposes and can be modified and canceled.

• Change: To change a die result, rotate the die so that its faceup side displays the new result.

• Reroll: To reroll a die result, pick up the die and roll it again.

• Dice can be modified by multiple effects, but a die cannot be rerolled more than once. Related Topics: Acquire a Target Lock, Attack, Card Abilities, Dice Results, Evade, Focus

There is no distinction made between a dice and a result. They are always one and the same.

Not quite.

Adding dice (before rolling) is not a modification, whereas adding results is.

For the purposes of LWF they're the same, thoughl however the dice entered the dice pool, LWF counts them.

Importantly too, when dice LEAVE the pool, LWF stops counting them. So Accuracy Corrector can stop LWF from functioning.

You say that, but you didn't in any way contradict what I quoted.

There are ways to add dice that are not (immediately) adding results, but there are no ways to add results that don't add dice, I think was the distinction being made.

LWF does not call out dice being rolled or the attack value of the attacking ship, only how many red dice are physically there when you roll your defense dice (this counts all hits, crits, focuses, and blanks. Remember any "Add a hit/crit" results is adding a physical die)

Since you roll second, any added dice (rolled or straight added in results) or cancelled dice via AC have changed the numbers.

Opponent rolls 3 dice, but cancels them all with AC and adds 2 hits. You roll 2 defense and compare dice numbers: there are equal numbers of red and green dice so you do not roll 1 more die.
Opponent rolls 2 dice, but adds a Crit via ATC. You roll 2 defense dice and compare dice numbers: there are more red dice than green dice, so you roll 1 more green die.

If LWF specifically called out "rolled" then added results such as the ATC crit wouldnt impact it, and inversely AC would not be able to "negate" LWF by cancelling the excess dice. But since it only calls out the final number of red dice compared to the initial number of rolled green dice, that is not the case.
