What if certain pilots could fly certain other ships?

By GLEXOR, in X-Wing

I was just thinking, and I thought to myself, "what is Keyen Farlander (the only Y-Wing pilot to survive the battle of Yavin) could fly a Y-wing?!" So I had to figure out what to put on him, a Y-wing is useless without upgrades, this is what I came up with:

Keyen Farlander- Y-Wing, 24 (same as Kavil)

Rage, 1 (to double stress, plus other goodies, without doing something dumb)

Twin Laser Turret, 6 (to rid himself of the stress and deal [most likely] two damage. You have re rolls from rage and spend the stress to change focuses to hits, even 0 focus results.)

Any astromech you darn well please! Or non at all! You don't need to clear the stress from rage! And no other come to mind, but you can't let anything keep you from Raging. 0-4

ship total: 31-35

i came up with a few others, though without such strong synergies.

Luke Skywalker- A-wing- 25 all the dodging. Just give Autothrusters and CR and PTL and he is good, plus another EPT of your choice, but juke comes to mind. Ship total, 28-32

Wedge Antilles- E-Wing- 36 build him like Corran. Corran Wedge could get messy.

Sabine- ANYTHING!

...Just kidding.

Does anyone else have something like this? OTHER THAN SABINE.

Farlander in a Y-Wing is the big one for me too. There just so many ways to build that. VI and R3-A2 would just completely shut down Expertise. And as you've mentioned, Rage (which would actually give a use to Blaster Turret!).

Other than that, Tycho and Corran in X-Wings (because Rogue Squadron)

This. So much this. I would love to see what Tycho can do with 3 attack dice and an astromech slot. ^_^

Luke in a T-70 would be significantly better! Could do some stuff like Poe with Intensity and/or Sensor Cluster!

Then what ever pilot is good will get nerfed. End of story.

Seriously I am starting to think Star Trek Attack Wing might have better balance than X-wing if this fiasco blows over the way everyone says it will.

You just have never played Attack Wing...

not in a tournament, It's X-wing where you can chose your pilot to go with your ship and the Borg are OP.

To be honest, I wish they would make a Star Trek Star Fleet Armada, using the Armada movement and such. Just get better scaled ships (which is hard if you ever say Trekyards on YouTube) and maybe change the command system to something closer to Runewars. Besides LCARS defense tokens would be cool.

It seems to me that a pilot's abilities would be different for a different ship. You don't fly an Interceptor the same way as a bomber, and the capabilities of the ship would influence what the pilot can do with that ship.

Like, Soontir Fel's ability partly comes from his experience flying an Interceptor. He knows how to push that extra performance out of the ship. Not to mention obvious mismatches, like Deathfire on a TIE/LN.

Corran Horn and Tycho in X-Wings.

I'd actually use Corran then, 'cause I hate the E-wing, stupid EU comic POS.

If X-wing 2.0 ever becomes a thing, I believe all pilots should be interchangeable into the ships they fly in canon sources (no Wedge in a Defender, sadly). It'd be one more component, but one that drastically increases the combinations the game presents.

Also, every rebel pilot ever in an X-wing. Every Imperial pilot in a TIE, and every scum pilot can cry in shame.

I want young Wedge and Sabine as cadets, imperial pilots. Just for flavor. Wedge can be lower PS because he is young.

I want some imperial pilots to fly FO stuff, or at least be crew. Howlrunner as a Tie flight instructor or sth.

I want some Bomber pilots to fly Punishers. Rhymer, Tomax for example.

I want some decent interceptor pilots as well. Anyone. Scourge, Mauler or Backstabber come to mind, to battle the creep of the protectorate.

And finally, I want a native PS 9 imperial large ship. Vader is the obvious pick, maybe with his sith infiltrator.

Tomax would be useless in a punisher. No EPT.

Omega Leader on anything... Imagin him on a Tie/SF, a Defender or a Decimator :-)

Anything with a crew slot.

Hello Weapons Engineer!! :D

oh yes, i did not think about that. So best option would be the decimator :-) Maybe with WE,Ysanne (to really boost the survivability) and rebel captive? Talk about OP :)

Obviously that would be added

Considering most Scum bounty hunters also have their crew card version, they would be fine in other ships riding shotgun. Be it Rebel, Imperial or S&V.

Noted. But my ideas don't really change the ship style by much, the B-wing was supposed to be a replacement for the old Y-wing, but in the end, the Y-wing stayed. E-wing is supposed to be a blend of the A-wing and X-wing, so I don't see a problem there. The closest thing to a problem is X-wing to A-wing, and Luke flew both frequently. Also, the X-wing is a "balance between speed and firepower". The X-wing is not a slow ship, it's not as bad a transition as you might think.

But Keyan didn't fly the y-wing escaping at Yavin.. I believe that was Evaan Verlaine.

The legends say that it was Farlander... ;)

Yes he did.

For the record, I am aware, I'm just being a Nerf Herder.

I will admit, that as far as the fiction goes, I actually AM a fan of the new over the old. Lost Stars does, and I believe the Inferno Squad novel are going to inject some much Imperial sympathy. They aren't all clichéd villainy.

I like the idea of the new EU, and having some proper oversight to make sure it doesn't turn into the mess the old EU did.

But I also loved a fair few things from the old, and wish the people in charge would get over their phobia of drawing from it and cherry pick some of the better parts.
