Congrats!
A friendly piece of advice: go ahead and double check your tournament kit to make sure you have all the cards, dials, templates, etc. you need. I forgot to do that one time and found I hadn't packed my dials.
Good luck. Just remember to breathe and try to have fun.

I am going to do that right now. To triple check.
Have fun! That's the best advice I can give. Meet some new people, talk about the close calls and the things you wish could have gone different... Heck, maybe even take a few seconds to spew some salt about how busted such and such ship you just lost to is or about how it was "your dice"
.
Be curtious in victory and defeat. Drink lots (of water preferably). If you take some lumps, remember that your opponent across from you will have had a similar day, so joke, laugh, and make it worthwhile for both of you.

I did the same thing for my second store championship. Fortunately, I had a backup squad with me, but even more fortunately, a kind soul lent me his dials because he had his whole collection with him.

Lucky. I forgot extra munitions on my Kwing bomber list last nationals. Realized as we set up for the first round. Had to make some quick changes to my roster sheet and go with an impractical bid for the rest of the day.

A friend of mine had one of the dials I needed. As for the rest...let's just say I had to make some emergency purchases.

Well i am missing a card for my list, but my LGS is supposed to have ordered the expansion i need to get to finish it out, other than that everything is there. Damage deck, tokens, templates(Thanks to Andrew Nuckols at Curledpaw). Ships, bases, dials. Stopping to get drinks/snacks on the drive there.

What list are you bringing? If you don't bring a good list you'll automatically lose.
Ignore Salty
Good luck, have fun, and Fly Casual!

Don't worry, the SaltMaster will be by to rain on your parade. Oh, look! There he is. . . Hi Salty!

As a witness, I can attest that this was the most hilarious unintended $30 expense ever.

While Salty is not entirely incorrect, bringing a "good list" won't magically hand wins to a beginning player. Learning what is good and why is as much a part of learning the game as learning to fly around asteroids is. Take each game as a learning experience and you'll not only get a return on your time investment, but you'll have fun doing it.

From my days as a magic player i always loved making jank work. Up until last friday i was planning on bringing a non Palpatine lambda. Now its an imperial firespray.(Granted Backdraft and Omega Leader are backing him up.) Went 2-1 with it tuesday night with my lone loss being the new fair ship rebels and the guy using swarm tactics on jess and rolling a natural 2 hits and 3 crits erasing my firespray. No other ship was lost that game.
EDIT: With any competitive event, confidence is key. And i have a lot of that(albiet, mostly undeserved)

Enjoy your first tournament and have fun for your first tournament, bring what you want ! You will learn a lot on this day.
Don't hesitate to ask if you need help about rules .
Expect to get facestomped but strive to do your best. I didnt win a single game for the first 3 tournaments i went to.
In the words of Iroh, "Failure is only an opportunity to begin again. only this time, more wisely"
You'll learn quick long as you dont get blinded by how hard something countered you, and eventually it wont counter you as much.
Also for the "good list" comment, youre going to learn the game better if you deliberately avoid the "meta" stuff. You develop a much better understanding of how they became "meta" and how to deal with them. People who only use meta lists tend to be terrible at adapting and lose to the silliest things because its unusual and doesnt behave like anything "meta" does, even if its not good.

You know someone is giving you good advice when they put meta in scare quotes and tell you to purposefully fly bad lists.
If you have a bad list and you lose, that teaches you nothing except to play a better list. Want to know what I told a BBBBZ player that asked me for advice after I 200-0'ed him with Commonwealth Defenders? " I don't really know what I'd do against my own list with 4 B-Wings, Palpatine and x7 are super broken."
May as well go straight to the meta instead of intentionally holding yourself back, getting frustrated, and playing meta squads anyways.
What everyone in this thread would like you to believe is that you can have fun Flying What You Love(tm). That is absolutely not the case in a competitive environment unless what you love is Mindlink, Kanan Biggs, Fairship Rebel 2.0, Jumpmasters, Jumpmaster II, Miranda, Nym, Dengar, etc.
Your list doesn't necessarily have to be a meta squad, it just has to be good. If by chance you've stumbled upon some power combo with Backdraft, OL, and a Firespray lay it on me.
I just want the OP to have the capacity to enjoy the game. I don't want him to pay $10 and get rocked for 5 rounds in a row by some Scum Nym Genius infinite bombs bull. I want him to be equipped with a squad that would have a chance because that's the only possible way to have fun in a tournament.
If you have a good squad and you lose, you know that you need to improve and you'll have mistakes that can be pointed to and corrected in the future. If you bring BBBBZ to a Commonwealth Defenders fight, have zero chance and the only lesson you'll learn is to stop playing this broken game.

These statements I can totally get behind.
I don't usually have a lot of time for practice, so my tournament games end up being my practice. Sometimes I take meta squads (and usually do well), and sometimes I try out new stuff (and sometimes I get lucky). Either way, I learn new things about either how to fly or how bad/good combo's I'm testing are.
If things go south try and hang in there mentally and don't drop out.
Play the whole event out no matter what.
The experience is worth it.
Go get em!

You dig through a lot of the unnecessary PGS nonesense in his posts, he often has one good line of info that isn't bemoaning how anyone who doesn't play broken stuff is playing wrong.
If winning is what's most important, then taking a proven list is the best idea. If winning and being original is important, then fly something which you have found to be effective which is not as proven. If you don't care so much about the result and get a thrill simply from seeing your favorite ship/character on the mat, then fly whatever you'd like.

If you don't fly something that's broken, you will get stomped into the mud in a competitive environment. That's not fun.
I admire the spirit, I wish someone could do well Flying What They Love(tm), but that's not realistic unless what you love happens to be the top tier stuff.
The meta is so harsh right now and has been for a while. It's not fun to Fly What You Love(tm) and lose all day.
From my own first store champs experience earlier this year I'd say don't be afraid to slow down so you remember everything you need to do and definitely don't be afraid to question something if you are not sure you understand it. The game has a lot of complex interactions. That said, don't be afraid to defend your own list's shinanigans. Lockdown denying people the ability to spend their evade tokens still takes some people by surprise. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy it.

I actually think that because the meta is pretty fresh right now, trying new things with the meta in mind is probably as good to do now as ever. Lots of players are going to be clambering to Nym and fair ship rebels to either make up for their inadequecies as a player or maximize their need to win, so if you are a smart enough player to figure out a solid counter to those lists while not giving up too much to the field, go for it.
But building a list without that understanding can be a painful reality if you came in expecting to compete. But if you weren't expecting to compete, your experience can still be pleaseant if you expect nothing better than playing a game with others who (likely) enjoy Star Wars whom you can (likely) relate with on some level.
