Boba and Stridan

By Underachiever599, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Probably a list destined to fail, but I want to try it out once I find a new LGS to play at (Just moved to Seattle from Montana).

Imp Boba Fett - 39

  • Expert Handling - 2
  • Proximity Mines - 3
  • Tail Gunner - 2
  • Experimental Interface - 3
  • Slave 1 - 0
  • Extra Munitions - 2

Total=51 Points

Major Stridan - 32

  • Fire Control Systems - 2
  • Weapons Engineer - 3
  • Inspiring Recruit - 1
  • Targeting Synchronizer - 3
  • Pattern Analyzer - 2
  • Kylo Ren's Shuttle - 2
  • Engine Upgrade - 4

Total=49 Points

List Total=100 Points

The idea behind the squad is pretty straight-forward. Boba can evade/focus, then use EI and EH to Barrel Roll. Or if he needs, he can use EH, then use EI to drop a mine on them instead, followed by tagging them with a Tail Gunner shot. Major Stridan using Targeting Syncrhonizer provides Boba with a Target Lock for the shot, helping Boba hit a bit harder. Then the Inspiring Recruit helps Boba recover from double-stressing himself with EI and EH. Stridan himself hits pretty hard with 4 dice, after the first turn, can use focus for his own offense, while getting free target locks from FCS. Pattern Analyzer helps slightly when he needs to turn around with the red maneuvers on the dial. It's by no means a perfect list, but Stridan's ability is great with upgrades like Inspiring Recruit and Targeting Synchronizer, so I really want to try it out. Also, Imperial Boba doesn't get nearly enough use, so I'd love to try putting him on the table more often.

Granted, this squad is pretty weak to high PS ordinance, such as the PS11/PS10 Imp Alpha Strike. They could easily burn down Stridan or Boba before either gets the chance to do much. I'd say Boba is the clear priority target here, since he has multiple arcs and mines. Stridan might have more straight firepower, but Inspiring Recruit won't do much for him without Boba around. I can see Kylo Ren's Shuttle being a headache to whichever player I face, but I've never tried using it in a game before.

What do you guys think? Neat idea? Too vulnerable? Any ways I could optimize it without changing the pilots?

After alot of experiments with Boba this is what I have found works best:

Boba Fett — Firespray-31 39
Lone Wolf 2
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
Recon Specialist 3
Countermeasures 3
Ship Total: 54

Rec Spec/LoneWolf/Countermeasures are all their to keep you alive and let you get into positions to trade shots without melting immediately.

VI and Engine Upgrade is nice to.

I kinda want to try this out once i get a copy of bomblet. Makes the most of his forward and rear arc.

Boba Fett — Firespray-31 39
Veteran Instincts 1
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Tail Gunner 2
Bomblet Generator 3
Andrasta 0
Ship Total: 49
"Duchess" — TIE Striker 23
Veteran Instincts 1
Lightweight Frame 2
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 26
"Pure Sabacc" — TIE Striker 22
Wired 1
Lightweight Frame 2
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 25

Or this

Boba Fett — Firespray-31 39
Veteran Instincts 1
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
Tail Gunner 2
Bomblet Generator 3
Engine Upgrade 4
Andrasta 0
Ship Total: 56
"Whisper" — TIE Phantom 32
Veteran Instincts 1
Fire-Control System 2
Recon Specialist 3
Advanced Cloaking Device 4
Ship Total: 42

Having tried the Upsilon once or twice casually i really struggle to keep anyone at all in arc. Feels like Kylos pilot ability is the main thing that makes it a threat.

I tested out my idea on Vassal tonight. Went about as well as expected. It's worth noting, I had never once used Vassal before tonight. So I'm sure with a bit more practice, this squad could perform significantly better. However, I was facing off against a player who was very familiar with Vassal, and had three Jumpmasters on his side. He flew a Bumpmaster, Uboat, and Manaroo to great effect against me. Didn't help that I accidentally ever-so-slightly landed Boba on a debris cloud during Round 2, causing me to miss out on an action that might have helped quite a bit. Follow that up with a poor maneuver choice on Stridan the next turn, resulting in a terrible bump-fest with my main gun unable to do much, and the game was pretty much over before it had really begun.

I'm going to try this list out a bit more over the next few days on Vassal, and hopefully improve with both Vassal and this list. I'll try and keep this topic updated as I improve with the list.

Unrelated to your squad, but Seattle has a bunch of stores with their own game night. Check out the evergreen squadron Facebook page to find the most convenient one for you.

Put VI , navigator on boba your now less predictable. You can select any bank and can be changed to any bank left or right. With vi at ps10 you move last most of time. You can choose to drop bomb with interface the force a bump so your not shot to ribbions.
