Simple and effective way to store the cards

By Jedu, in X-Wing

As stated in the topic: please share your ways to manage your cards - both pilot cards and upgrades. I'm looking for a simple and effective storage solution to keep all my cards in order and prefferably in a single album/ container.

I'm looking for a ready to use album, which would allow me to keep all my x-wing cards (standard and mini) in one place and which wouldn't be a binder, that contains separate "pocket" pages.

To be honest, I don't know if the thing that I'm looking for even exists ;)

When it comes to ships, I use Sir Willis Bald's microhangars and I'm delighted with them.

I used to use the bags from the expansion packs and some rubber bands. Small bags for the upgrades and the medium and large for the pilots. But the number of cards has gotten so large that that wasn't feasible any more. So I now got a 2" binder and have card inserts for them. My LFGS has pages for the minicards as well which work for the upgrades.

It doesn't exist, at least not for the minis....... Pilot cards are the same size as magic, so easy there. I've only every seen the minis as sleves and modded pocket pages, although i haven't looked in a while.

Yeah, I've been there too, using stringbags from expansion packs, but now it's not enough. I think that there is no other way than to use a binder. Did you get yourself some kind of special binder for your cards? Do you travel with it a lot? I would like to know how it performs and whether it is safe and useful.

You can get sleeves for the minis now:

https://www.chaoscards.co.uk/accessories-c1/binders-pocket-pages-c6/ultimate-guard-32-pocket-a4-mini-american-pages-10-pages-black-p133565

I have a binder with all my cards, the upgrade cards are stored in points order (highest to lowest), and sorted by upgrade type (of course).

The only problem I have had is when I took all my x-wing stuff with me to visit my dad for the weekend, and realised a couple of hours into the drive that I had left the binder at home. :(

That's the problem with separating the components I suppose.

Using Sir Willibald's Boxes. Need to sort out some wave 11 still, and finish off the small ship token boxes (rough drawings in the corner of the photo)

Has been working very well since I started it.

Check out a company called Case-It. They sell a selection of zippered binders that I use for my pilot cards and ship's cardboard. Since I never throw anything away, frugal not a hoarder, I have pages designed to hold the 3-1/2" floppies from days gone bye. These are great for the large ships' base cardboard. You might be able to use the pages for CDs instead. Amazon, Staples and Office Max are sources.

Ultra Mini Folios are what I have for the upgrades. I have four of them with all the upgrades divided between them. Each page holds 9 cards, are double sided with 20 pages per folio.

To hold the small ship cardboard, Ultra makes pages for Tobacco Cards. Each slot will hold two bases and I think there are 15 slots per page.

Two Plano boxes stores all the cards through Wave 11, less duplicates. I find it's easier to maintain than using the binders.

I use an Ultra Pro deck box for my Rebel/Scum pilot cards. I only sleeve up as many as I think i'm likely to need (usually one of easch named pilot and a couple of each generic), the rest go in a bag from one of the expansion packs and are stored away as spares.

Upgrade cards I keep in a small box, bagged by type (elite/system/astromech/crew etc), again one of each unique and a couple of each generic. It's not perfect, but it keep things relatively organised.

Cards in sleeves organized by type + rubber bands + shoebox.

Why's everybody always gotta make things more complicated than they need to be?

Well I have a container that it fits into so it is fairly safe. It holds all the cards.

I started using FFG sleeves years ago and it would annoy me to use two different brands so I keep buying them.

For the upgrade cards I have two boxes from Broken Token specifically designed for those cards. http://www.thebrokentoken.com/mini-card-case/ They are about 14-16 dollars apiece depending on where you find them. I got mine on Amazon because I have Prime and got free shipping despite being a dollar or two more expensive than buying directly from Broken Token. You have to assemble them but they don't require any tools, though I do recommend a rubber mallet or hammer to lightly tap the pieces into place. Both boxes fit into the top of my Plano tackle box with room to spare and hold all of my upgrade cards. For reference I have at least one of every ship besides the Raider and Tantive and two or three copies of many, many ships.

For pilot cards I have always kept the baggies that come with X-Wing stuff and I use the larger ones to store my pilot cards. I plan on buying something else to store them in but I haven't found something I like enough yet. Storing everything and having plenty of room to grow being the priority. I sort by faction then by ship cheapest to most expensive. Example: Scum: Z95s, M3As, Quads, Y-Wings, Khiraxz, etc. I think three big deck boxes or one big multi row deck box would do the trick for me but I haven't been really looking for one just yet.

I used to use card binders for pilot cards, but then I dropped the binder and it broke. so I switched back to the clear plastic card boxes. One for upgrades, and about 4 for pilot cards. (I know you're looking for a one location solution...)

That's for commonly used cards. I also have two mini-binders for little used or new upgrades, and a cardboard box full of pilot and upgrade duplicates that I don't plan on using.

If you sleeve your upgrade cards you can use regular side load magic binders to hold both pilot and upgrade cards. Unsleeved and the cards are too slick and slide around. Sleeved is perfect!

I use baseball card boxes for my pilot cards and Broken Token's American mini box for my upgrades. I buy too many ships to pull all the cards out of binders to reorganize every time I buy a new ship. Nope.

Ultra Pro does make a 16 pocket page that fits the upgrade cards: http://www.ultrapro.com/product_info.php?products_id=3887

I use them and they're great!

These are great and now seem to be available at most stores for like .25ยข a page.

I have the same setup for the upgrade cards. I have filled two boxes though. I am going to have to reduce the number of extras I have sleeved and really only put in what I use. Sleeves take up a lot of space.

For the pilots, the cardboard CCG/TCG boxes are decent. However, Broken Token used to have a short box for cards against humanity that they stopped producing. I have that one, and it is also starting to get full. First step will be to remove the two dividers I have in it. I just checked, and they have made new boxes for the regular card sizes. Unfortunately, this size wouldn't fit in the top of the Plano.

You can get these here:

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B019GQ9EPA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_M1.Ezb27CDDAM

I just have a stack of pilots and a stack of upgrades. All kept in separate holes in a Feldher bag. I would provide a link, but I don't have one.

The Stanley Case from Amazon works very well ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00005QWYF/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501461155&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=stanley+case+organizer&dpPl=1&dpID=51c4igw-5ML&ref=plSrch ) paired with Tuck boxes http://sirwillibald.piratesoftatooine.de/?page_id=777&lang=en which @SirWillibald created.

If you have time to print everything and are good with DYI the site is amazing for it.

As I don't have time for to make a bunch of tuck boxes I found this site which has mini boxes for cards. The size is correct for storage so they should work, I am going to order a lot in the future along with some blank mini playing cards from the site to create HOTAC mission cards.

http://www.makeplayingcards.com/design/mini-cards-box.html

I use a large tackle box. Lots of compartments to separate by card types, and space for minis.
