So yeah, I'm Phoenix now

By Daigotsu Kai'Sen, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Since spider are not a clan yet, I had every intention of going back to my 2nd clan, the Crab. After the phoenix spoilers though, I have to say, I am liking what I see.

It fits though, since my favorite character I roleplayed with long ago was Daigotsu Kai'Sen - who started out as Isawa Tensen, a Phoenix Fire Shugenja who ended up being the son of Daigotsu (before Kanpeki was a thing) and eventual spider clan champion in the coolest and first "evil" l5r game I've ever played.

I shall make sure their study of maho is not interrupted, you know, for the greater good.

Think you might be waiting a bit to get your hands on any maho. The core set is all about the Clans' key identities, and despite the smack-talk of twenty-odd years, none of the original Clans has maho as a core mechanic to their baseline sense of self.

I'm glad FFG realized that.

Isawa would disagree with this..... (regarding key identities)

But I do agree with you in principle. :)

Isawa has about as much to do with the Phoenix as they are now as Ikoma does with the family that completely misses the point of his example....

Well, maybe an Iuchi Shahai will show up soon-ish...

He is still the founding member of the primary family...... even if the Clan has changed and so has blood magic. History is important.

But as I said I do agree in principal that it is no longer a key identity of the clan now...

How much blood would a bloodspeaker speak if a bloodspeaker could speak blood?

I always found it ironic that the iconic Unicorn mahotsukai was a living example of the perfect Rokugani wife for most of her story. I guess being a Unicorn just automatically prevents you to become full-on monstrous evil or something.

It's the horses and the handshaking ??

makes people happy

Or it just goes to show that to keep a happy household, one has to not shy away from the need to spill a little blood every now and then.

I'm sure carrying a skull ? around and calling it grandfather helps too ?

It just goes to show that Order v. Chaos is on a different axis than Good v. Evil.
