Nym? No problem yet.

By Rat of Vengence, in X-Wing

Okay, so let's have a look at what people are saying. We have the usual threads of people caterwauling that the sky is falling, Nym is going to kill everyone and the horse they rode in on. Then we have threads where people are asking how to stop him dying so quickly.

That sounds like balance to me, at least so far. Let's give it a bit more time and get used to how he plays and the interations with other ships/cards before we have more people mistaking bad play for an OP ship :)

Is the same for "ban this ban that" and then you read the Store Championship results topic...

He is OP thus needing a nerf, 1st remove one of the <bomb> and the <turret> slots, then make TLT large ship only :P

I had two games with Nym and won both, used bombs first time in years, end up bombing my Dengar, one opponents ship and my Nym(I know he ignores friendly bombs), but I totally forgot his ability first. But I after that I did remember better.

First game I didn't loose Nym, just had two more hulls left on him, despite the bombs I took from my own ship. Dengar didn't die either. Second game I lost Nym at the last minute, something that I would have been playing very different in tournament. Dengar was almost unharmed and end up ending the game after double tapping.

I found that Nym with Autoblaster turret and Accuracy Corrector is powerful as everyone knows, you can always save your actions for something else, like barrel roll, something I did almost always because not really sure if there is point in focus with Agility 1 ship who do automatic damage. Bombs did alright damage, not very reliable because I didn't use Cad Bane on Dengar, I feel that K4 Security Droid is still better if you have torps.

Was this OP? Not at all, there is one ship (Dengar) that costs 60p or more, so it should be able to clean roughly 2/3 of the table and Nym with roughly 40p should do the rest. Nym can be destroyed really fast and if you just go for Dengar without immobilizing from his ability you can win just like any game, but if you try to deal with Dengar in endgame, not going to happen!!

On both of these games I was able to get my opponent splitting up his squad and lure him inside asteroid field and after you close anything with Nym in close range surrounded by asteroids, you will take bombs and two hits from Autoblaster turret. I had huge advantage over my opponent buy running new list against him and that always sets people bit off.

So I would give time till world's 2018, before really being able to say how it does.

Nym - and the Scurrg in general - seems pretty well balanced for me.

He's certainly very powerful offensively - 3 native attack, torpedo, missile, two bomb and turret upgrade slots - an can be optimised to do some brutal damage. I imagine someone wil come up with inventive ways to leverage the missile and torpedo slots (especially on the generics for alpha striking), but Bomblet, Genius and a combintion of Autoblaster Turret or TLT and Accuracy Corrector or Advanced Sensors are likely to be the go-to builds. Both top out at a consistent 2 hits, plus accurate, mobile bombing.

BUT... at 10 health, 1 agility, and with no real means of soaking damage, he's not that much tougher than a standard Y-Wing. If you shoot at him, he'll take damage. And that applies to pretty much any ship in the game doing the shooting. A naked HWK can put damage on this guy.

The more shots you have, the faster he'll be removed from the table.

As such, 2-3 ship lists and high PS aces are likely to hate him. The high PS of 8/9/10 plus Barrel Roll and a range one death bubble means he can wither arc dodging aces and do a significant amount of damage to tanks before they can finish him off. 4-8 ship Swarms will quickly reduce him to space dust, however, even staying at long range.

So to sum up, he's pretty good against some of the current meta favourites if allowed to use the tricks at his disposal, but has very significant weaknesses against focused fire.

Interesting that only 4 people have agreed with you. Just saying :)

Honestly, the SCURRG backlash seemed to have far less to do with the SCURRG and more with

"OMGSCUMOPJUMPMASTERSLOOK!!!"

Dengar/Nym just won one of our local store champs yesterday.

Note the placement of names there

I for one would never argue that dengar is fine

Though that's not to claim that winning a store championship has to imply that a ship is or isn't balanced

Yesterday I played four games with my friend, he played the Nym / Dengar list and I played the list with triple ace + missiles. I won three games out of the four.

My personal remarks:

The droid "genius" + bombelet generator is really an effective combo, for the last part it managed to destroy me Quickdraw and injured Vader with. But he destroyed The Inquisitor with Nym each game.

Cad Bane is horrible, fortunately it is limited to once per turn.

The Inquisitor is too fragile without "push the limits" despite being a good carrier of missiles.

Overall the list is good :)

I lost to a Nym and Eamon bomb-storm last weekend, but still had a blast (pun fully intended) and the other player just knows what he's doing.
I'm looking forward to trying Sol again today; had crazy fun with him and Advanced Sensors, Engine Upgrade, and Bomblets before it even dawned on me to add Genius.

I played against a bomblet equipped Emon recently - he bombed himself more than me...

Nym really isn't a concern for me, especially in comparison to Miranda. I tend to fly a Ghost/Lambda/Asajj in my lists, so having a tank to send into the fray really helps.

pretty sure if genius + bomblett wasnt a thing, or bomblets only suffered Hits rolled, he wouldnt be as "deadly"

Nym is a powerful ship, but w/o the bomblett/genius combo hes just another slightly better than average ship with a turret. Every time ive used him or faced him w/o that combo he was mostly just a nuisance not a severe problem. 10hp behind 1agi still dies fairly quick, and without the bomb threat you can just dive him and vaporize him with little to no worries.

ADV+genious+VI+IonBomb will be more annoying than the Bomblet, in my opinion

Nym is no worse than a vcx and he'll melt just as quick. He wants to be up close, which is something we've all been conditioned to do over the last several waves (fen, the sf and arc chasing dual arcs). just takes some list hunting and a strategy swap up.

That said i do think the damage bomblet generator can potentially dish out in a round is a bit much, it's just a little too good ignoring stress and bumps when it doesn't hurt Nym.

Took one today too. Top 4 had Nym in 3/4 lists.

Lots of times the newest, shiniest ship has done well, especially against people who haven't even seen one yet. I'll wait a bit before deciding the sky is falling. So far, it seems good but not too good.

Yup. Wave 11 only hit two weeks ago. People are having fun with their new toys.
