Happy Friday

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

Happy Friday to everyone and a most excellent weekend friends.

This weeks question is...

Do you use third party templates and tokens?

Not here, but only because no effort has been put in to finding something worth it. I mean, it would be awesome for casual games, but that doesn't fly at tournaments as I understand it, so the cost would have to be low enough to allow the awesomeness of the products to overcome that consumer value threshold.

Indeed a Happy Friday Cubanboy!

No, I throw all my extra Armada cash at 3rd party ships. Cardboard is fine with me. (Especially since I have 3 core sets. One for me, one for a second player, an one with all the non ship and upgrade components still bagged up just in case something goes missing or a catastrophic spill occurs.)

I picked up several acrylic tokens at a regional event earlier this year, from the owner of Recreator studios in return for a bunch of alt art cards. I also have official FFG rulers and command tokens from seasonal events, store championships, and regionals. I even have a Victory Star Destroyer spot gloss card from GenCon, which is essentially an oversized credit card.

Frankly, there's no comparison: anyone who plays the game regularly should at least invest in getting acrylic range and distance rulers if they haven't earned a set through an official FFG event. A full set of defense tokens is also recommended.

Sadly, we haven't gotten to the mass production level to provide cheap acrylic tools to everyone like X-wing third party producers. But if you play frequently, and especially if you travel to events and want tokens and tools that will stand up to the abuses of constant travel, you should do yourself a favor and invest a little money into your tools.

Oh, and those Recreator defense tokens? Top notch and still used even when the new FFG tokens are available. Easily worth the trade.

2nd party (almost) all the way! FFG prize winnings are the way to go for range rulers / tokens / etc.

With that in mind, I did buy some Engineering tokens from an enterprising guy at 2016 Worlds, and they've been my Engineering tokens since, even when official FFG Prize Pack Engineering tokens were released.

Also I started work this week, but I have Friday off. So it is the best of both world!

happy friday all!!!

I have an FFG range ruler... part from that cardboard tokens are fine.... I have enough for a couple of 'major' spillages / collection issues* :P

*late night clear ups when the bar staff are kicking us out... the downside to my local club being based in a (police social club) bar!

No, I've got the plastic rulers they gave out at a store championship, but I'm married with 3 kids all under 5. I'm just thankful I can afford this habit without getting into all the little bits you can add on.

I have ffg prize stuff and cog o two rulers, no other 3rd party stuff as it isn't worthwhile. I'm not paying for bling, it needs to add additional functionality

I love my third party range rulers. There are five of them all at the specified distances. The distance 1 is so valuable when you are measuring engagements with squads and the distance 2 for initial deployment of squads. I use the distance 3 one for Toryn range...

Happy Friday!

I have the FFG official stuff, but don't have enough of the tokens to use. And I really hate mish-mashing cardboard and acrylics. I'd consider buying 3rd party, but I really haven't found any I liked enough to spend cash on.

X Wing: I have Curled Paw stuff. Love it.
