The Accidental Saberist

Once you have one you never have enough ?

Revisiting this thread, because I'm thinking about creating a saber and pistol space pirate. If I select Warleader and Soresu Defender, could my buccaneer use a blaster for offense, and still take advantage of the Improved versions of Parry and Reflect (with an off-hand saber)?

Yes. As long as he has a lightsaber weapon in his hand he can use those talents. It’s just in attacking that the Two Weapon rules apply.

Yep, so long as that lightsaber is active and in hand.

And if you were to install a Lorrdian gemstone in the saber, you'd also get the benefit of the crystal's Defensive and Deflection qualities, making it so that your enemies have less chance to hit or greater chance of you being able to proc Improved Parry or Reflect (depending on how they're attacking you). This gives you a much better defensive option than Defensive Circle while still leaving your action free to shoot with the blaster.

Just be warned that if you do try to attack with both the blaster and the lightsaber in the same round, odds are your dice pool is gonna suck, on top of being incredibly difficult due to the rules on attacking with two weapons that use two different skills/characteristics.

So I'm going to say executioner pirate makashi if i had to give the perfect combination.

Executioner has the talent that lowers difficulty against a target. This would actually allow you to use both without as much penalty. Also executioner has some good will based talents which you should have to be coercive which pirate needs!

You could also go aggressor/pirate/makashi which might be even better but wouldnt mechanically aid the pistol saber combo

The other way is to go marauder/gunner and be a space viking with a vibro sword and a gatling gun! Multiple ranks in enduring!

The real question is can you with the weapon brace or maybe a utility arm, could you wield a melee weapon in one hand and have the utility arm or brace help you hold and use a two handed gunnery weapon?

I selected Soresu for Improved Parry and Improved Reflect, and Warleader for the in-career Ranged(Light); and later, Force Rating... but I am curious. Which talent are you referencing?

Hunters quarry but its to upgrade your attack not downgrade difficulty my bad.
