Jan/Kanan/Pulse Ray Sheild

By Monkeyshine77, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So if I play Jan with Kanan and pulse ray shield, and I use the the pulse ray with Jan's ability one turn, on the following turn would I be able to get ride of the ion and stress token? As I only have to execute a white maneuver with no mention of revealing it I am not sure.

That should work. Kanaan just says "after executing a white maneuver"

Whether you chose it or were dictated by the ion shouldn't make any difference.

That's what I thought but wanted a few extra opinions just to be sure. Thanks.

Yup works fine.

Nien Nunb crew also does.

For Jan, I would recommend Nien crew. 2 points cheaper for essentially the same effect. It actually helps later on as well as it changes the 4 red to a 4 green, providing her with more escape options.

Could I please ask for clarification on this. The version of ion card I found (on the xwing companion) says "the owner moves the ship as if it were assigned a white 1[up arrow] maneuver". On the card , the word "white"is in bold.

My reading is that the words "as if" mean it is not a maneuver, and therefore neither nien or Kannan would work.

Specifically kanan says " after a friendly ship ... executes a white maneuver"

Nien says " you may treat all [forward arrow] maneuvers as green."

But in both instances you are required to execute a white maneuver, and my reading is that you haven't if you are ioned.

I would be grateful for any clarification.

Thanks

The reason for the wording on the card is because when under the effects of an ion token, you don't put any dial down. So there is no dial to reveal, so you did not actually assign a maneuver. But you DO still perform that maneuver. Being ionized means you are doing a 1 forward white maneuver, which is the requirement for triggering Kannan. If the ability said "When you reveal.." it would not work as there is no dial to reveal, but a white maneuver has been performed. Similarly, Nien changes that maneuver to a green 1 forward as it is still a forward maneuver despite not having a dial to reveal. As quoted fro the the FAQ: If ship is ionized, "Nien Nunb’s ability does make the white [? 1] maneuver green."

Yeah, you're reading WAY too much into it. Do what the card says to do. Don't add your own additional interpretations.

Thank you.

From the FAQ:

Nien Nunb
If ship is ionized, Nien Nunb’s ability does make the white [straight-1] maneuver green.

So, even if you are ionized, the white straight-1 is most definitely treated as a maneuver. Which also means Kanan can trigger from a ship executing an ion white straight-1 maneuver.

You don't reveal a dial maneuver, so any upgrade or ability that triggers off the "dial reveal" won't trigger from the ion maneuver.
